The soundtrack of your lives...
Back in the 70's one of the first songs I learned was how to pick out "Rainy Day People" on my acoustic out of the "Gord's Gold" book. My book is in tatters now, but I still have it.

Sometimes I think it's a shame when I get feeling better when I'm feeling no pain...

This thread has reminded me .... tho' I never had any of GL's albums, he got plenty of listens from the radio back in the 70s ... stuff I had disremembered.
He truly was part of the soundtrack of my youth.... And left quite a legacy

LEGEND.
RIP, great talent is gone from the earth. Tough day in Canadian music with the passing of Tim Bachman as well. Cheers

Some of the best flawed hero brutally honest lyrics ever:
If I could read your mind, love What a tale your thoughts could tell Just like a paperback novel The kind the drugstore sells When you reach the part where the heartaches come The hero would be me But heroes often fail And you won't read that book again Because the ending's just too hard to take I'd walk away like a movie star Who gets burned in a three way script Enter number two, a movie queen to play the scene Of bringing all the good things out in me But for now, love, let's be real I never thought I could act this way And I've got to say that I just don't get it I don't know where we went wrong But the feeling's gone and I just can't get it back |

I was struck with The Way I Feel on The Cowboy Junkies last album. Turns out it's a cover of a 1966 Gordon Lightfoot song (I like it better than the original, personally). Beautiful song! You'll be missed, Gordon!
The way I feel is like a robin Whose babes have flown to come no more Like a tall oak tree alone and cryin' When the birds have flown and the nest is bare Now a woman Lord is like a young bird And the tall oak tree is a young man's heart Among his boughs you'll find her nesting When the nights are cool she's warm and dry Your coat of green it will protect her Her wings will grow, your love will too But all too soon your mighty branches Will cease to hold her and she'll fly from you Now the way I feel is like a robin Whose babes have flown to come no more Like a tall oak tree alone and cryin' When the birds have flown and the nest is bare When the birds have flown and the nest is bare
