yep. My understanding is that the lenses and electronics should all be oriented at the same angle. I found that many were oriented correctly, but not all.

LOL .... probably 20+ years ago I pulled up to a gas pump, put my card in, and tried to proceed.
NOTHING was showing on the digital display ..... WTF? Went inside and the guy asked if my sunglasses were Polorized .... well yeah .... I fish ![]() Learned something new that day! "The more expensive the sunglasses, the higher the probability that I will lose or break them asap" - KC's law of shade dynamics I buy the slightly flexible, Polarized, safety sunglasses made by 3M .... also keeps the wind out of my eyes. Available at big boxes like Lowes & Home Depot. Since they were less than 30 bucks, I've had my current pair for longer than I can remember .

Readers.com site has sunglasses with built in bifocal reading lenses. Many styles and great value for around $20. Periodically they have 40% or so off sales.

This is timely. I have brand new eyes after recent cataract surgery. Incredibly, 20/15 in both eyes
Haven't been able to wear non-prescription sunglasses for nearly 20 years. So I'm in the market again and have been scanning the interweb for some deals

My understanding is that cheap lenses will damage your eyes.
I have a pair of Costas for fishing that makes everyday look beautiful and they should for what I paid for them.

randolph sunglasses
Most are USA made, some are even mil-spec but you don't necessarily have to go "Full Maverick". Good customer support and replacement parts are readily available. Glass and polycarb lenses, both in various tints and polarization...

I've always tended to own expensive name-brand sunglasses for that reason. But I'm not so sure it makes a difference from a protection standpoint. Thoughts? Doc told me yesterday to be extra cautious because there was some degree of UV protection in my original equipment eyes that is no longer there.

John, you've got that 'citizen of the world', bon-vivant vibe, so I think you could pull off a retro Gregory Peck-style frame in translucent white with a bottle green lens.

Hmm, I have an older pair of Rx glasses with clear plastic frames, I could have the lenses tinted dark green (RayBan gray-green is “G15”). That’s how I got my last set of Rx sunglasses - had an older pair of Rx glasses tinted. I figure its ok if the prescription is a bit off, for casual use sunglasses.

After the surgery and still today my eyes are more light sensitive than OEM. It's always a good idea to have a few extra pair of sunglasses for outdoor work, in the Wife's car, at work, etc just in case you forget your "good pair".

I've had 2 pairs of Hobies.
Lost the first when I fell off my jetski and the second when I turned my head in a bassboat at 70 mph.

Even as a geezer I have eyes my ophthalmologist says most people wold not wear glasses with my vision. I have astigmatism and reading tiny text is when I need the glasses. Right now using my computer, the glasses are off and laying on my desk. I use my glasses for reading my cell phone, but not much else. I got prescription sunglasses only so if I wear them into a business, I can read the small text on receipts or the item I want to buy.

I carried a pager or cell phone clipped to my jeans/shorts hip my whole corporate career while enjoying life ... pushed into a pool, climbing in/out of boats, and once knocked off into a toilet. Between those and sunglasses, I've "lost" about ten or so .... none in the past 15 years.
edited: And the only 10mm rolled into the innards of my bass boat .... I didn't lose it .Rolled back out a decade later too! |
