I was just at my fav steakhouse for lunch today....Crazy Horse Saloon.
Prime Rib with baked potato for $15...of course drinks and tip were more. (It's an every Friday special...place was packed.) It was great.

My best bud from Army days lives in Vegas and does stained glass. He's well known all over town and is doing some custom work for The Golden Steer, an old school steakhouse who hosted Sinatra, Elvis and others.
When completed they are comping a meal for him and some friends. I'll be there with bells on. https://www.goldensteerlasvegas.com/

If it's not the food, it's the service. Servers must think like clowns.

Back on topic. I would not choose someplace really expensive to go out to eat in a group unless I planned to pay the whole check or unless I was explicitly told by the person that was going to pay the whole check to go wild.
If someone said "I'm going to take you out to eat, where ever you want, even a ridiculously expensive steak dinner." Then depending upon the person and the reason, I might let them. I would not choose someplace really expensive if there were 2-3 groups coming with a wide variety of folks, and each group was going to pay their own way.

That said, I've had some really amazing meals that were very expensive and delicious. I had a boss come down from NY once (lived in PA, but worked in Manhattan). He took me and a colleague to Pappa's Bros Steakhouse downtown. 3 people, and I think the total bill with tip was probably $700. We assumed that he'd be expensing it, but he said that it was coming out of his own pocket. We all enjoyed it immensely. That's probably the most expensive meal I've ever had. The missus and I have had some meals that were in the $100-150/person range (including alcohol), that were also very enjoyable.

"Picking a Restaurant
Wife’s cousin’s birthday so of course we go out to dinner to celebrate. Long story short, he picks a local Steak House." Well, it was his birthday and his choice. Agida/agita hit me when I used to drink. |

I'm not a real fan of eating out, especially expensive restaurants. I'm always disappointed in the quality/quantity of food for the price. One place I do like, is Red Drum, in Mount Pleasant. They have a really good fillet, that I wish was four times the size.
My other favorite place, is my friend Tim and Carol's house. He cooks a great steak and she's a great cook with all the other food. But more importantly, it's the company and hanging out. |

For $100, I'd rather buy some prime rib eyes and cook 'em at home every Saturday night for a month.
I wore a tie to school every day for 4 yrs. Double Windsor! Alternatively, bow tie, turtle neck or a dickie (young guys ask the old guys). Button up shirt, dress pants, hard-sole shoes. If your tie was a clip-on, the seniors would beat the shid out of you. Last edited by jamesnmlaw; 06-09-2023 at 05:48 PM.. Reason: I have no reason. |

I have no idea what I had. That was the Monterey Fish House, right? A friend of mine familiar with the area recommended it. It wasn't cheap, but it wasn't very expensive, either. I used to always order abalone if possible, but even back then I don't think they had it.

There is a high-end restaurant in Seattle called Canliss. For our 20th wedding anniversary my Mom bought us a $250 gift card and said enjoy......
Bought a steak there, best friggin steak I've every had in 60 years on this earth. $85 for just the steak and rice, want a side salad? $15 I think our bill was 300-400 all said and done.............you only live once. Life is too short to drink cheap beer! think about that.

Went to an inexpensive Chinese restaurant last night. Had a great traditional pork fried rice. It seems hard to get a traditional one these days with everyone trying to make it more" exciting ".
Funny thing was GF took the menu up to the counter and asked the lady what those people over there are eating. Haha, the lady said they have a different menu only for Chinese people. |

^^^ Chinese restaurant workers have a way to just end a conversation.
Complain about the soup?....."You eat the soup"
