If it helps, it probably wasn’t malicious. Most people have no idea gummies are bad for dogs, some people probably think it’s a treat. I’d consider cameras, and a sign.

Glad your pup is better.

On a somewhat related note. Some animal group once asked Rachel Ray to come up with a recipe for a dog treat. She did. I think, IIRC, the recipe included onions which are part of the allium family and are bad for dogs and cats (in large quantities or small quantities regularly for a long time). There was, of course, a backlash. But then they did ask a chef for humans to come up with a recipe for non-humans. Most folks don't really think about foods having different impacts on different species.

I'm sure you all know this but just in case....It is a felony to threaten someone. That's basically the definition of felony. Making someone feel threatened. A deadly weapon enhancement comes when a deadly weapon is part of the threat. Words matter. A felony can be committed over the phone. Battery is when someone has been physically assaulted.

I think you're confusing the word "assault" and "felony." You seem to be drawing the distinction between what constitutes assault and what constitutes battery.

Assault is verbal. Battery is physical. Felony is a classification of crime punishable by more than a year in prison.

Pedantic discourse aside, I think your point is a good reminder for all when dealing with the as wholes of the world, in particular one that would harm a dog.

unlikely a blood test. likely just a dip-stick in urine. ( maybe a blood stick to confirm) they are very sophisticated dip sticks these days...... actually impregnated with monoclonal antibodies that can distinguish individual isoforms or drugs, their metabolites etc.... quite remarkable specificity ..

Give Tilly a hug or three from Bazza, Jeff.......

You are exactly correct, Mike. Words are important, and I used them incorrectly.

grins, not that Higgins has ever had road rage and punched/kicked a guys side mirror off at an intersection...........Jeff is calmer these days..........mostly, I've driven with him on the track.

Unlikely a blood test? We were in the room the whole time. The vet drew blood and did not take a urine sample. Took several hours to get the results, so she called us at home, but again, this was only done for confirmation. She nailed the diagnosis in minutes. And like I said, unfortunately, she has seen enough of this to be able to do that. Some owner inflicted, but many cases like ours, wherein either the dog found it on their own, or some smart ass thought it was funny.

Absolutely. She's had more than her share (according to Ed) today. We're just so relieved.

We'll have some time for words on Sunday. Correctly or incorrectly... ;)

Am glad your pup is better!

I think I may have read between the lines that perhaps this could have been your next door neighbor in attempts to get your dog to chill out and stop barking…

It may be worth mentioning to them that ‘someone’ fed your dogs edibles and the affect it had on your dog including the vet trip and diagnosis. If you have a good neighbor, they won’t do it again, if you have a great neighbor, they will apologize.

I'm not a legal professional and you might be but the only thing I'll add is that different states use completely different language to describe illegal behavior in the realm we are discussing. In New York, for instance, if you punch someone in the face and it does not injure them to the point of needing medical care, it's called, "harassment." I could not freaking believe this but I swear that's what some cop told me years ago in NYC.

berettafan 06-30-2023 10:51 AM

What kind of sick ****bag does such a thing? So glad the pup is ok. I'd hate to imagine how i'd react catching someone doing such a thing.

But hey it's worth those tax revenues to have this crap floating around everywhere.

Last night I was reading about 'citizens arrest'. The parts about detention and use of force will tell you a lot about what you can get away with. It seems to parallel what you would thing in terms of general altercations. Some differences state to state.

However there is no mention of harassment nor there need be in that context.

As we know, it's not the criminal aspect that you need to worry about. It's the civil side.

No, definitely not a neighbor. The only two with adjoining property are both very good friends. One has lived there longer than we have lived here (34 years), the other ten years. Both are animal lovers and have owned dogs at one time or another.

We know everyone else on our little dead end. We are, as neighborhoods go, pretty darn tight. Lots of neighborhood get togethers every year, like block parties and the like. And most of our other neighbors are far enough away to not be able to hear any barking.

There are several dogs up and down our little dead end street. They are all "outside dogs" for the most part. They all bark to some degree. When one starts, the others start in turn. It's actually now become a running joke in the neighborhood, our own little canine "alarm system". "The bark" works it way down then street, then back up the street as whatever perceived "threat" comes and goes. Any sort of "stranger danger" gets the "neighborhood watchdogs" on alert. We all actually kind of count on that.

So, no, not a neighbor.

I was so afraid this was going to turn into a John McAfee situation.

To my understanding he wrote the first independent A.V. software, and took profits away from Bill Gates creating his own proprietary Windows viruses.
Sold remaining company to Intel and outed them as bloatware and spyware.
Moved to Belize and made his own Col. Kurtz estate in the jungle, complete with young girls, making and taking his own psychedelics made from scratch in his own lab.
Had a reported pack of 10-20 guard dogs.
Neighbor poisoned a bunch of them. Neighbor ends up dead one night.
McAfee (a major corporate CEO) is found and arrested in Spain on US Tax Fraud charges.
McAfee tattoos "$WACKD" on his arm. Says he's received death threats from top US Authorities. Goes public.
Ends up 'dead by suicide' in Spanish jail. He didn't play the game.

Jeff Higgins 06-30-2023 02:11 PM

Yeah, but he wrote the definitive guide on navigating the Third World undetected. How to cross borders, bribe officials with things they can really use (not money...), and that kind of thing. He's achieved a close to Ted Kaczinsky level of cult following in "those" circles.

My neighbors love our dogs. Ed and Tilly are now fourth generation in our house in this neighborhood. Everybody knows them. The neighbors who have been around that long know us to be "responsible" dog owners. The newer neighbors who now have younger children even let their kids play with them (with our permission, and under our supervision, of course), the same way our own kids and their friends in the neighborhood played with our dogs when they were little.

We have GREAT neighbors. My wife and I always planned to move once we retired (and we are constantly "looking"). But, well, we love our neighborhood. Victims of "suburban encroachment", for sure (which is the only reason we think we want to leave), but we've made lifelong friends here, on our little dead end. We are now third oldest, only beaten out by the lady right over the fence to the north, and a couple just further in, both of whom bought new in 1963. We bought in 1987.

dogs eating a “roach” is enough to cause serious problems, according to our vet. it may not have been a wilful act. hoping this is the case, if nothing else.
me thankful the dog is fine.

Zeke 07-01-2023 01:03 PM

I've tasted weed right out of the bag. It's nasty. How and why would a dog eat that? I mean I think there are some things that dogs won't eat. Not an expert as I've had very few dogs, like 3 in a lifetime. But would a dog eat a pickle? How about a raw potato or tomato? Greens? Will they eat green veggies like raw spinach? IDK these things. If they would then, I'd guess they'd eat a joint.

But a gummy? Damn sure right a dog will eat anything they think is a treat.

I know they will eat chocolate even though that is very bad for them. They might eat rat poison. Again, it might look and smell like a treat.
