Shingles shot

I got my 2nd shingles vaccine yesterday. Good grief, I feel like Jeremy Remmer after he got run over by his snow cat.
The 1st dose really wasnt too bad. This one has dropped me like a stone. My body and joints ache so bad I look like I am 101 years old. I cant even throw a ball for my dogs...I hurt that much. The headache, mild fever, fatigue, and nausea are all battling for control of my carcass.
On top of my misery, my wife is having a much stronger dose of side effects from her shot. So, regardless of my troubles, I am taking care of her and our 2 less than year old puppies....oh yeah, plus the 3 cats. I am all done in.
When I take the dogs outside I sit in a lawn chair in the shade watching them....as best I can without moving.
After 28 years in the military, I have had every conceivable shot known to man. I have never had anything make me feel this poorly.

How about you Pelicans, anybody have issues with the shingles shot ?

Got my first. . . waiting for the second. Can’t be as bad as getting shingles. . . ask me how I know.

No issues at all. But my wife was feeling pretty bad for a day+

Small price to pay for protection. Feel better.

I had the same reactions to the second one....the first one went fine.

The nurse giving me the second one warned me about it.....she was right.

The 2nd one hit me a little harder than the first, really not too bad in my case.

Wife just had her 2nd a couple days ago in the AM, and she was fine until she sat down (always moving) and it hit her hard too, she rarely complains but she did this time.
This morning she's much better, still a little residual soreness around the injection site.

Glad that's done!

I got over shingles about 8 weeks ago.
Take the shot

Both the missus and I have had Shingrix, and I don't remember either of us having issues with either shot.

But then shots have to be taken individual by individual. When I was in college, the college mandated that we get a measles booster if it had been a long time since the last measles shot. I ended up with a 102º fever later that night. Fortunately, I felt better/fine the next day.

Neither affected me much but the actual Shingles did (before), so take your licks and be grateful... Good move on the vaccine !

I had the old original single shot version long ago. And the two dose version last year. The two dose version was not that bad for me. My mom got shingles, and said it was way worse than childbirth.

I had mine about 6 months ago without issue minus pain at the injection site for longer than would be normal for me.

I feel very lucky that I take vaccinations well.

Trick that a nurse told me was to keep the arm moving after the shot to help move the vaccination around. I do push-ups and move my arms around right after and that really seems to minimize the injection sight pain- not sure if it helps with side effects though?

Hope you feel better soon.

I had no more pain at the injection site than any other shot.

But the second Shingrix shot caused non-stop headaches for a day and a half. I normally never get a headache.
These were so bad that if I lightly touched the hair on my head...it felt like needles piercing my scalp.

Not glad you are suffering Matt, but glad you got the shot.

Evans, Marv 07-14-2023 04:35 PM

Matt. Sorry you're going through this. I just got the first one four days ago, and I still have a decent bit of discomfort at the injection site. I was wondering why I felt a bit down the day after. My wife said it might have been the injection, What you all are saying supports that. Not looking forward to the next one. I was debating on getting it since I'm pretty old and haven't had it, nor has anybody in my family.

I assumed the reaction means my body is working.

(Could be wrong. But let’s pretend I’m not)

Brian 162 07-14-2023 06:50 PM

The first shot I had chills through the night and was useless the next day. Next day I was fine.
The second shot I was fine no side effects.

I didn’t realize there was a second shot. I’ll have to look into it.

No problems with the first shot.

WPOZZZ 07-15-2023 01:01 AM

Been vaxxed with Shingrix about 4 years ago. Got a mild case of it a couple months ago. Mild, but still painful.

The newer version, Shingrix is a 2 shot deal. The older version was only one shot AFAIK.

Geneman 07-15-2023 08:52 AM

Shingrix is the state of the art these days. Others are in development but do not wait... Shingles can be deadly in the aged...

fxeditor 07-15-2023 02:15 PM

I had my Shingrix set last year. The first shot was no problem, the second kicked my a$$!

I hope you feel better soon!
