Well you've got some of the best offroading in the country between kentucky and tennesee. Pick up a sxs or jeep and have alot more fun than you ever could on the road.

This is all tremendously helpful. We are going because it's the best choice available to us, given our constraints.

Any word on 1) car club activities or 2) air cooled mechanics?

I used to trek from ATL to Louisville for business 2-3 times a year, and it was always a treat to eat at Mark's. Don't miss the buttermilk pie.

The southside and west end of Louisville is not the best the city has to offer. East of I-65 is where Id look. But Louisville has a lot to do, fantastic one-off restaurants, bourbon everywhere, lots of car clubs and Cars and Coffee, etc. In Bowling Green KY, you have one of the best road courses in the mid-west- NCM, right next to the National Corvette Museum. My favorite track. Elizabeth Town and Bardstown were sleepy little towns that are now very fast growing. Good places. PM me if you have any questions.
911_Dude,

I saw your reply when you posted it, but somehow failed to answer. Zillow has been our friend; we've seen there are places we could probably afford. We've looked mostly in the Brandenburg / Doe Valley / Vine Grove directions. When we visited retired friends in Louisville 2 years ago, we really enjoyed Bardstown but I haven't even considered it. An under-30-minute commute on uncrowded roads seems OK to me, so we'll look in that direction too.

It's an audacious man who quotes himself in his own sig. I admire that.

The pictures look great. Mark's is on our list!

Sounds good. Those are all nice places. Pretty rural. All depends on what you're looking for. But those are nice.

When you say "Car Clubs" what are you looking for specifically? There is the usual PCA club in Louisville. As well as BMW and Corvette clubs. But like I said, Im a Louisvillian, and dont have a lot of knowledge of car clubs outside of that city. Cars and Coffee events are common all summer.

There are a few air cooled mechanics in Louisville. Stuttgart Specialists is a good place to start. I know at least one mechanic at the Louisville P car deal is well versed in aircooled. But its been a couple of years since dealing with any of them. The Porsche Club in Louisville is pretty active and Im sure a call to one of the contacts could set you up.

I am sad to report to you both that I'm writing from Belfast.

For you Guinness fans, I recommend The Search for God and Guinness. I received it as a gift some years ago from my Belfast friend I'm staying with now.

Looking for a place where I can build a home shop and not deal with traffic, where my wife can play her instruments without bothering the neighbors, and where we can walk, bike, and belong. So rural, close to the city, is not bad at all I think.

As far as clubs go, PCA, SCCA, MBCA are all good things for me.

Clients in the brig, or clients in the gold depository? Or did they start in one and end up in the other?

Brig.

But honesty, I don't think either are there any longer.

What else could there be on the corner of Bullion Boulevard and Gold Vault Road?

4500 tons of gold. I'd love to look around, but I don't think they welcome visitors....

I just checked, the Confinement Facility closed in 2010. Pretty sure it was on Gold Vault Road, on the overhead you can see where a building used to be and is no longer. Somehow I got it in my head that the gold suppository was closing too. (let's see if anyone gets that reference)
