Maybe Michael (MMarsh) will chime in. I believe he has more seat time on these than anyone else on this forum. I vaguely remember him saying something about the differences between the 1150 and 1200 versions, with the 1200 being preferable for reasons beyond the displacement boost. Maybe PM him and ask.

Regardless, you need a motorcycle. You know that. You're a few weeks late, though...

I don't know any thing about these BMWs, maybe they have a soul that I am unaware of but you give off more of a Harley Sportster vibe to me or maybe a Ducati Scrambler?

Either way if you get something and I come out next spring for a visit, we can all go for a ride together.

Go for it. Had several BMW’s. Most recent is 1200rs. In my opinion the best of all worlds. Have taken it on several relatively long long trips and found it both enjoyable to ride and not exhausting. Love the torque. Absolutely no issues at 30k. I know many love the GS, and agree it is excellent but would pick the RS, again just my opinion.

I see a lot of those around here and they look like very tall dirt bikes. Knobby tires. If I were looking for a dirt bike I would get a 250 two-stroke or a big displacement thumper.

Exactly. The 1150 series is well thought-of. This particular bike was built just before the troublesome servo ABS system.

I am looking for a pure street bike which is a hybrid/compromise. With the bags off, this would be a decent sport bike for an old fart like me. With the bags on, its a tourer.

Shaun, this came up sort of spur-of-the-moment. After thinking about BMWs since the R100RS came out in the seventies. And yes, these things have their own vibe. I suspect I will fall in love, frankly. And i don't care. Even Lois is being supportive.

It is rather uncanny Supe. The R bikes definitely have a way of getting under your skin. 'twas a sad day when I had to let mine go.

That’s interesting. I was under the impression that the early 1200 bikes were a straight-across improvement on the previous model.

They might have been, but just did not feel as solid to me. The gauge cluster would move all over the place and just did not feel as substantial overall.

Might have just been me, but it made me keep mine until I went to a dedicated street and dirt bike setup.

I have thought about checking them out since then but the local dealer has changed hands and I am not impressed with the ownership, plus with my Road Glide and 900SS I have plenty.

My opinion as I’ve owned both the 1200r and for a brief time the 1150r is look for a 1200. No beak, no servo brakes, and more zip. I like the tank better as well.
