The fireplace facade stone has arrived and should be installed next week.
![]() I realize that there are many DIYer Pelicans on board to which I salute you. I actually thought about doing the project manager thing but after looking into it many neighbours out there that built their own cabins mentioned the difficulty in getting skilled trades people on board. As a result their projects took almost 3 times longer to complete simply because of the lack of tradesmen and women. So rest assured guys....the plan is for me to finish the lower level myself!

Keep notes.
We are going to build a much, much less impressive place next to the house we bought in SC. You folks have a great eye. |

This build has been some 10 years in the making...it was now or never basically! Are you going to be hands-on involved in your future build Hawk?

![]() The house we bought in SC is the best, I have have wanted it since the first time I saw it in the early 89’s. The next steps are the choice of materials for deck, small In-Law detached structure and garage. I just like your choice of materials.

Are you going to be okay with the neighbors next door in barn red?
(so close and blocking some view) That side of the porch could be blocked off for privacy. Plus trees or arborite for the walkway. Before it becomes an AirBnB.

LOVE my new corner wood burning fireplace! We used Pangea stone from India..love the colour variety of the stones. We met Mike and Linda, our stone masons...super nice couple from nearby Sunnybrae, BC. They've been doing stone work for some 30 years now. They had just completed laying the final grout below the hearth. You can see that it's still wet. I gave them a big thank you hug!

Your build is turning out very nice, glad your builder is working out for you, I have heard of some not so good stories. Does your truck carry enough fuel to drive there and get back to Alberta on one tank, or will you have to pay BC fuel prices?

^^^So far we have been very pleased with our builder. The trades have been very pleasant…good bunch of local guys and gals that know their stuff. Brad, the owner and Ron, our PM have been great to deal with! Plus….I know exactly where Brad lives!
Launch Construction Ltd: Award Winning Shuswap Home Builder My F150 has a range of about 950 Kms so I could probably do a round trip. Usually what I do is fill up at the Tsu’ Tina First Nations gas station close to us…only $1.22/litre, as compared to I think it was $1.72 in Salmon Arm. And then on the way back I put in maybe $75 in Golden, BC just to be safe. BC taxes are killer. What are you paying?

More pics! Most of the plumbing fixtures have been installed. The main level flooring is complete though covered for protection. The appliances have been delivered. The quartz countertops have also been installed.

Alex, the only thing about the build is the lack of a view...from EVERY F'ING WINDOW
![]() Well done. I love the entire ethos/theme.

I've got two general queries with my fellow PPOT dudes and dudettes here:
(1) In floor electric heating I'll be completing the lower level in the near future and was thinking of adding this in the lower level bathroom before I install the vinyl plank flooring. What do you guys recommend..what has been your experience doing this? (2) Rip Wrap....I will probably need to apply this on the lower part of the slope to help prevent further erosion. Your experience? Can I do this myself? Thanks guys!

What a day and a half it’s been! We left at 9:30am yesterday headed back to Shuswap Lake. We checked our route on the DriveBC website. There would be a closure of the TransCanada highway at Roger’s Pass between 2-5pm for Avalanche control as they’ve had a good dump of snow. We arrived there at 1pm thinking we’d get the ok to proceed? NO! We ended up spending 15 hours there stranded in the F150 along with 100s of other big rigs all lined up for miles!
![]() Finally at 3:30 am we got the go ahead to proceed. What a pure shytshow…brutal road conditions…wtf was I thinking! We pulled into Revelstoke at 6am and had a snooze in the A&W parking lot. We finally arrived at our destination some 25 hours after we left…time for a glass or two!

25hr trip mostly sitting in traffic does not sound fun. Good thing you are not driving a F150 lightning, I guess you could carry a generator. You likely will avoid doing that again. After watching many episodes of Highway through hell, I will avoid driving through the passes in the winter.
