20 years ago when race car for the road meant lightweight big for period fixed wing and race inspired seats, I thought that was the pinnacle of street car concept: 996 gt3, exige, evo, even carrera gt and f40
Now it means active areo, huge power, rear wheel steer, electronic diffs, etc.......this stuff just doesnt make much sense on a road car. "supercars" have gotten dumb by being too smart. miata/basic cayman/emira/gr86 are more interesting to me than top of the range models The one exception is the gordon murray t50, he seems to get what a super car should be

Yea, all the modern supercars are just computers driving the car, and the "driver" just making suggestions to the 100 computer systems in the car about where to go. They are way faster than 100% manual street cars, and the driver thinks they are really fast, but it is the car doing a lot of the work. The Carrera GT was about the last of the true driver car with no computer nannies, just driver skill to make it fast.

Especially the preconceived notion that a $300k should be attractive.

My RS has lots of track miles on it from previous owners and even was a European deliver and did the Ring.
One more year of kids sports and then I will get my weekends to myself as an empty nester and it will see the track again. |
