Fastfred's story reinforces what I was told by a german car independent mechanic friend of mine before I bought my first base model Cayenne. He advised me to stick to the 6 cyl base model if buying used out of warranty Cayennes as they have way fewer systems (such as the air suspension) to go bad and the 6 cylinders are proven to be robust and long lasting. I am sure I would love a Turbo Cayenne, but I am also fairly confident it would have more issues than the base 6 cylinder models I have owned. The 6 cylinders have plenty of power for everyday driving and even pulling trailers. Also, I am old school when it comes to fancy gizmos in cars. Power windows, power locks, AC, leather seats and a radio are all I really desire these days (and wife likes heated seats) in my vehicles. Backup cameras, collision avoidance stuff, traction control, dvd players, adjustable air suspension systems, heads up displays are all things I don't need and don't want.

Some more thoughts on the subject.

I know unclebilly has had an overall good experience with his 955s, and their look has really grown on me, but I would probably only look for 08-10 957s. You've got a few years of working kinks out like the cooling tubes if nothing else.

Known issues: there are a ton of known issues with these trucks, John mentions another. Rant on, WTF is it with automotive engineers who are pure crap at their jobs? Sunroof drains that will drain into the cabin when plugged? I would fire the guy that created that disaster especially knowing it dates back to 80s and 90s W124s. I know bean counters are a big reason why stuff is lower quality than it should be but there's no excuse for moronic engineering. R/off

Anyone getting one of these should do their homework and ask questions and check known faults like plugged drains as soon as they get one. Wheel wells come off in minutes.

Fred, you can get a real PIWIS 2 system. The hardware is real Porsche, software is real Porsche but it's been hacked so anyone can use it. You do have to jump through some hoops to get it to work if you get the system and download the PIWIS software. they ship out of China of course. I recommend getting the system and laptop package for $1K so you don't have to jump through hoops.

While my truck was in the body shop getting a new front bumper my insurance gave me a 2022/3 Grand Cherokee.

Perfect truck if you have an active outdoorsy family of 5+ but God what a pig. I hated driving that thing for week. I would much rather have my 13 year old truck than a brand new GC. I suspect most UVs (none of them are sport IMHO) are the same. The Cayenne really is a unique vehicle in the auto world, especially the GTS and Turbo.

My $.02

Both my wife and I loved the vehicle though . She was so happy when I gave it to her , and proud as a peacock driving it to work every day .
When her company was taken over, she was driving the new owner out to lunch and he made the comment that they must be paying her too much .
I would mf that pig every time I had to repair it, ,but driving it home from the shop , I would fall back in love with it all over again

It’s like the old joke about owning a large sailboat…might as well stand in an ice cold shower, tearing up $100 bills. Probably more amusing than owning someone’s status symbol from 2004.
