Once I figured it out, pretty sure you would have worked in that group. Only the geotechnical/drilling engineers were separate. Construction engineers were based out of San Francisco.

Sorry for the ramble.

I had noticed in the last couple weeks that my 65" Vizio Tv had a very faint vertical bar on the display. I was able to spot it when the tv showed dark scenes. Figured the tv was nearing it's end.

Now...after the grounding is fixed...the vertical bar is gone and the display looks as new. Improper voltage might have been the problem.

Ordered a new Sony A/V Reciever today from Amazon.

The Vizio tv speakers are so bad that I don't like watching it.

My Sony STR DH590 arrived at noon today....the tracking said Monday, I'm good with that.

I had removed all wires from the voltage dead receiver and taped id's to the wires for the switch to the new one. So...it was only a matter of plugging in all the speakers and running the HDMI ARC cables and I had a picture with surround sound. The Klipsch Subwoofer only has one wire..simple.

I love the ARC function....everything on (including the tv) with one push of the button.

It came with a calibration mic and I used that for the speakers line level volume.
I will get into the receiver menu this weekend to set up the sound fields.

What a difference from the 65" Vizio speakers.

You can likely fix your old one for the garage or some other use, check for a small transformer near where the power cord attaches to and should be a relay also, those small transformers don't take over voltage that well. That should connect the main amp power supply. Possibly a fuse there also.

^^^ I'll prob look into that this winter. I really don't like the idea of putting it into a garbage bag and letting the truck take it.

I like doing fix-it projects like that.

I saved almost $100 on this Sony from Amazon by buying a 'renewed' receiver.

The packaging and appearance was the same as new.
Only time will tell if it was a smart move.

Been a couple months since this happened.
Was paying bills online this am and I noticed when I entered my electric bill for November it was way down from the previous month.

Month of the electrical problem....$221
Month after...$148

A difference of $73...glad it's fixed.

What are you attributing the savings to? The loose neutral wire? Or the new devices?

^^^ The loose wire and the melting of a couple others from that wire.

The replacement devices are all similar to the damaged ones.

My bill normally starts climbing this time of year because I use a quartz heater for one section of the house. The furnace leaves that part colder if I don't. I was expecting it to be up because of the season.

I've purchased several factory refurb devices over the years. I don't think I've ever had any of them turn out badly for me.
