Masks have become popular here, at least you see a few/bunch of people wearing them at the supermarket vs. 0 a month ago.

I had cv after shots and it was mild, no loss of taste or smell. I wrote to my doctor this morning if he has a better test than the two I took from Flowflex. Massive mucus day today.

jyl 10-05-2023 08:37 PM

More people are wearing masks here too.

Well if there's any good news I just got yesterday's PCR results and it was negative for covid. Definitely feeling better today but a roller coaster. I was watching Interstellar last night and from 7 to 9 pm I felt perfectly fine, no muscle fatique and a nice clear head. Went to bed soon after, cool room, all of sudden was sweating.

Had a video call this morning with my doctor and he thought I'll be fine but if still bad on Tuesday to come in again for more testing. Taste and smell will come back within a few weeks he said.

So things are looking up.

It is interesting, slightly, to devour a plate of microwaved tofu and spinach and have it be a completely meaningless event. Stir fried orange peppers (tons of Vitamin C) look nice at least.

Interesting topic, some veggies are more nutritious cooked than raw, spinach and bell peppers are two. Just don't overcook.

Glad you're felling better. It's interesting the mindset we have now about COVID vs the flu vs other similar illnesses. My father-in-law was recently hospitalized with what turned out to be pneumonia. Wife said, "at least it wasn't COVID." To me...pneumonia is worse. He's had COVID and it was a nothing burger. Pneumonia can turn real serious real fast. People still die from the flu, too (always have). Weird.

To the bold...that's interesting! I eat most veggies raw and it's because you cook away so many nutrients...did not know that about peppers and spinach (but can't stand cooked spinach).

Woke up with sniffles. Staying home and mega dosing vitamins. Hope to beat this fast. First cold in more than two years.

That’s good news, Shaun.

Speaking personally, the reason I prefer to have influenza versus Covid is not because one is more acutely miserable than the other. I think that with most of us having prior exposure or multiple vaccine doses, and Paxlovid available, the risk for most of us of getting very sick (meaning hospitalized) from Covid is not high. The reason is that as more is learned about Covid, it appears to be a much more systemic disease than influenza, with more risk of long-term effects that aren’t well understood or well treated. So I’m getting my shots (both flu and Covid) and while I’m definitely not avoiding crowded places - life has to be lived - I’m willing to pop a mask from my pocket when it seems a good idea.

Thank you Gentleman, I honestly feel a lot better just knowing what it is and that it will pass and especially that my taste and smell will return. I created a new version of my spicy, umami laden steak sauce just before this hit and haven't been able to see how it turned out. First "batch" was just a happy accident that if I can work out a recipe balancing heat with pepper flavor with anchovy with sweet perfectly, it will be on the shelves someday. I'll send you the recipe or a bottle after I get closer John, would love to hear your thoughts on it.

I trust that advice to wear a mask would not be a reason for PARF, just as sharing on the futility of doing so wouldn’t be, either. I say this b/c there are folks at more risk than others who are rightfully concerned about contracting C19 but think they’re safe with a mask and then take on more risk. That is an incorrect assumption based upon the best meta-analysis off the years-long data we have at our disposal now.

this is very interesting, at least to me. Last night thought I was getting my sense of taste and smell back. Was at the supermarket, got some grapes, those must be genetically modified super sweet ones that are new to me here in Boston. I could taste those while walking around the market. Because of that I got some on sale spicy Italian sausage, good Pastene sauce and some French bread. Made sausage and sauce and garlic bread, couldn't taste any of it.

Today for lunch had some smoked kielbasa for lunch with the bread and could taste the smoke flavor, no meat/sausage, bread, or mustard flavors

Just got some Therflu at Target and picked up a big Lindt chocolate bar too. I can taste chocolate and the hazelnuts just fine.

I can't taste the orange flavored Theraflu.

Power of suggestion? Wife and I both coming down with something, too early to know what yet. In the clammy, headachy, febrile stage.

Shaun @ Tru6 10-07-2023 04:16 PM

if the flu, don't let it take hold, get whatever over the counter medication you like, Nyquil has always worked for me, except this time, and go to bed. If I'm being honest, I should have gone to bed at 7pm the night of my achy shoulders, instead I made myself stay up until 9:30/10 watching YT videos (addicted to Kimono Mom). This may have all been averted if I had just gone to bed like I always have and slept 10 hours or so.

jyl 10-10-2023 07:08 PM

Well, I had a weekend of tired, headache, clammy, took naps on Saturday, did chores Sunday, and am all fine now. Wife had that but worse, plus a definite fever, felt quite bad, stayed in bed most of the weekend, but is almost all back to normal now. Neither of us had any congestion, taste loss, body aches, etc.

She tested negative for Covid until this morning, when she tested positive, so she is now starting on Paxlovid, which I think is a good idea even though her illness may be largely done.

I tested negative today, my first test. Possibly I am a couple days ahead of her and have cleared the virus quickly, or possibly I never had Covid - unsure.

The bummer is that wife was going to L.A. this week to see friends including elderly ones and one guy in quite poor health, and she’s had to cancel her trip, and naturally I’m being blamed for this even though - as I remind her - there is no proof I ever had Covid at all.

I'm sorry to hear about Mrs. jyl, I hope she gets better soon.

I am still sick. It's 11am, just woke up an hour ago. Making an appointment with doctor now.

Not your average flu. And negative on the cv test so that's good.

I'm only fairly certain about having the flu 1 time before, probably 20 years ago. It was a week of feeling like hell, fever, shoulders-neck-back-joint aches, etc... I may have had it other times, but didn't realize, but that one time checked all of the usual flu symptom boxes. It was unpleasant and not something that I want to have to deal with again.

I hope you feel better soon, Shaun. Rest and be well, sir!

I think she is 80-90% mended, judging by how energetically mad at me she is for allegedly infecting her.

You, on the other hand, sound not so much. Hoping for better news soon! Is it too early to call dibs on your stuff?

KFC911 10-11-2023 10:12 AM

I've never had the flu. I had a bunch of stuff as a kid, but mom recently said I never had it....

I did get the first 3 covid and both shingles vaxes .. no others as an adult.

Tree's prolly gonna fall on me later on today.... sounds like that's better than the flu!

Get better :)

KFC911 10-11-2023 10:13 AM

Oh yeah....

DIBS :D!

I've been blowing a pound of snot from my nose a day for the last 6 days. Getting much better now but I don't remember ever doing that before or feeling like this. Truly weird.

I'm getting there. Not 100% but close... Damn it's persistent.

Just got back from the doctor, tested negative for A and B flu and they think I'll be fine in a few days. Today I feel better like I did several days ago and then it came it back. Who knows but I'm taking it easy today.

Dibs on stuff. :). I really should have a will made up for me, I definitely have enough stuff that I should seriously get it done. I have a lot of friends to give stuff to, mostly the cars.

Ugh, one of our close friends tested +ve for Covid and feels like crap - she’s mid-70s, not great health. My dad (lives with us) says he’s feeling like he’s got something, tested -ve, he’s 86, I may have to take him to an Urgent Care, he’s on many meds so taking Paxlovid may be complicated. Wife on Paxlovid, still not feeling 100% but getting better. Daughter tested +ve right after she got to Paris, feeling about like I did (so not too bad) but she’s with some friends so this is “cramping her style” she says. Covid has finally hit us - other than daughter, who had it in France last year, we’ve all avoided it until now. I’m assuming I had it last week myself despite -ve test this week.
