How important is a view?
With all these posts about where to live, the one thing that seems hardest to decide is, "how good a view do I need?"
Water front, water view, mountain view, skyline etc. It seem the cost of having a very nice view makes property ridiculously expensive. So how important is it?

Very important. I couldn't live without a view.

That is different for everyone. Like living close to a beach is for some.
I can't care less about a view out my window, but I live in a neighborhood and it is just a house across the street. We have lots of flowers in multiple flower beds, and a Koi pond. I have never in my life just sat on a porch and looked at a view, even when I was on vacation and saw pretty views. Not my style. I lived in Hawaii and the desire to go to the beach is all used up in me. I hate sand in my shorts, and nasty salt water has no appeal. Just looking at a view is not even on my list as important things. Your mileage may vary.

It’s important to my wife and I. We have a panoramic mountain view from nearly everywhere on our farm. This was important to us when we bought our land and we still love it.
A mountain view does make for windy days…

We stayed a a friend's cabin in Maine for a week. We thought it would be on a lake or have a view of the mountains but it was in the middle of the woods. Nice but no view. View is very important.

my death hole apartment in LA faced out over a busy street. the bedroom window was basically filled with a marlboro billboard. it was like looking out into montana. then cigarette ads got banned and it was replace by an ad for a lifetime network cop show with some angry chick detective's giant head staring at me.
views matter.

The view out the picture windows into the glade behind our house was a big selling point. It is the picture of serenity.
![]() ![]() The serenity was shattered in the Spring of 2019 when we had an epic flood. The water was 7 feet deep. ![]() Coming home to this view makes me smile every time.

I never thought about "a view" where I lived during the years of working and navigating life. Before I built my house after retirement, I didn't think about a view at the location. But after moving up here and seeing the view we have, I thoroughly enjoy it every day & am very thinkful to have it. I've posted pics here of the view from the front of our house before. We also have a little "retreat" in the back where we eat lunch and sometimes dinner that has a secondary view that's not spectacular but very calming, especially with the sweet breezes.

I had an Orca swim past my house earlier in the week (not stoned, I live at the beach). I took a photo but not a good pic. The view is always changing, I like it.

Not just a view, but I've always wanted to live on a street that has turns and elevation changes instead of just rows of houses. I did live in such a place for 2 years in a tract of homes and the backyard overlooked a small ravine. But the view was of massive power lines.
I lived in Boulder City NV for one year. I didn't live on the lake side of the city divided by a ridge where some of the town had views of Lake Mead. I worked on that side a lot because that's where the expensive houses were. The lake constantly changed. It was marvelous, but the weather sucked. I got the hell out of there in a year. |

I live in the mountains. If I were buying a house it would definatly need a good view and a nice creek. There are many around here. My house has neither but I lived here since I was 10 years old and everything else about it is good. I can ride my bicycle 10 minutes up or down the road and have a great view or a nice creek so its all good.
