There is an underground publishing movement where people self publish. They are called ‘zines.
Waaay back in 1985 I was in a somewhat popular punk band. We were pretty much the entire issue of a ‘zine someone made called “Strength Through Plaid.” No idea how I remember this. |

I got a letter in the Road & Track letters to the editor section. I scanned it but can't find it at the moment.

Yes. I designed and built this in 1995 and it was in the L.A Times Magazine (no longer published) the following year. The article was about gardens and this one, designed by a landscape architect out of Boulder, CO, was featured. I was the carpenter/general contractor for the tea house.
![]() Edit: I completely forgot until a while ago the the tea house was also in a Sunset Magazine special book called "Decks and Patios." I think that was like 3 years later. Credit for the landscaping: Marpa Landscaping (marpa.com) and the location is in Mandeville Canyon, Los Angeles Last edited by Zeke; 10-28-2023 at 04:36 PM.. |

Photo in Asiaweek magazine 1976, taken by John Evringham, who in reality was a punk ..

Back in 2009 I helped with a one-week hot rod build for Hot Rod Magazine. Started out with boxes of parts on a Monday and showed the car at Knott's Berry Farm on Saturday. The car made the rounds on the Hot Rod Power Tour the next summer. It was great fun working with true professionals.

Never in a magazine story but in the 80s and early 90s the National Dragster posted final round results from the tracks I raced at and got my name listed quite a few times.
