ZZ Top definitely had some magic. See this (last time I checked it was still on Netflix) for a fun and interesting watch and to hear about about them finding "their sound." They didn't have it in the beginning.

I saw them on the Eliminator tour and another show later on.
Next time they roll through, I will see them again. I met Billy at a hot rod show at the Pomona fairgrounds. There was no line of people waiting to meet him, it was bizarre. I shook his hand and he signed my Tres Hombres CD. Their themes of cars, women, and adventure (like Master of Sparks) still resonate with me.

This is a pretty cool video, kind of 'through the years with ZZ'
Bonus, Thunderbird is a great ZZTop song.

I started listening to them about 1979 or 1980. I love Deguello. I brought the "six-pack" CD set and Deguello to India in 1988. I listened to those CDs the whole year.
I like some of Eliminator and almost none of Afterburner. I saw them in concert for the Afterburner tour (1986) and had backstage passes. I wish I'd been in Texas in the 1970s to see them in concert before they hit it on MTV. Since I moved back to Houston, I run into Billy around town, every few years. Great humble guy. So sad that Dusty passed away. I always thought Frank would be the one to go first.

Saw them on the Eliminator Tour in Biloxi, Mississippi, great show. My ticket stub was printed with a glitter type of ink and still sparkles, lol. One of these days I will put that model car together.

Would you look at that price! In 1984 a 6 pack was just over 4 bucks. Today a 6-P is 9 bucks but the average concert ticket is over $100 — $116 according to a quick search. And a lot more than that for top shows. Would ZZ Top be a top show in '84? I think so.
$13.50 then is about $40 today. |

That’s why I seldom go to concerts anymore. When I can buy their entire published catalog for less than the price of a ticket, guess which option I choose?
The one exception to that is ZZ Top. The last couple times I’ve seen them, it has been in smaller houses (2000 seats). Tickets were 50 bucks.

I just bought 3 tickets to see a rockabilly band I really like in a tiny venue downtown (The Delta Bombers)
75 bucks for all three after fees. Small venues with fun bands is how this ol' grandad consumes music at this stage of the game. (Somewhere around here I also have an Eliminator tour stub; I'll have to see if I can find it to check the price)

It looks like I paid 15 in 1986 and something like 33 in 1997

I saw them July 4, 1976. Quite the show, bicentennial and all.
