Another 6 or 7 inches of new snow last night. Turtle pond is now over 3 feet tall instead of two.

After the 30mph winds yesterday, it's completely calm this am.

The weatherman said we are parked directly under the center of the low pressure system and whatever snow and wind we had the last two days...."It's coming again starting this evening" (as it moves past)

I used a full tank of gas with my snow-blower this am. I've had it at least 10 years and that's a first.

We’ve had about 17 inches of snow over the last four days. Now just bitter, cold, and wind.

Taking care of my sick father in Utah. I like visiting snow, living in it not so much.

Watching freezing rain fall. 9:22 AM, 1-13-24. 23 degrees f. Watching it build on power lines & tree limbs. Hoping the power stays on...

I'm in NE Portland. All last night there were gusts between 25 and 30mph. Not the best sleeping weather. Temps in the teens (And dropping as the day progresses! It was 18ş at 6AM, now 4 hours later it's 14ş)
There was light snow falling about 8 this morning. Getting really heavy now. I hope we don't get ice. Ice storms with high winds are an absolute nightmare.

Went out on the bike before it got too extreme. Kind of fun! A man's got to make sure all the skin is covered, though! Even taking my gloves off for a selfie for a minute made my fingers hurt.

^^^ You're braver than I am. 14 degrees on a bike has to be brutal.
I have rode mine with snow on the ground...but nothing lower than 30 degrees.

I'm rotating two hummingbird feeders - every hour or so the sugar water freezes, so I'm keeping one in the house to warm up, and switch it out. Poor bird is just parked right next to it, with his feathers puffed up, and going in for a hit every few minutes. He's also a jerk, and not letting his brethren partake in the sweet, sweet nectar....

Survival of the fittest. I call him Conan, the Barbarian.

^^^ No hummingbirds around here....they left a few months ago.
I keep feeders full and suet cakes hanging all winter. The wind blows a lot onto the ground but none goes to waste.

If you drive a RWD pickup truck..fill up with gas ! = Traction.
(Or toss a few sandbags in the back.)
RWD pickups are squirrelly in the snow. Despite all the government mandated everything. Especially with a computer controlling the controls. Cough.

I recently tried to divert onto a seldom-used long dirt road track at dusk.

Going around the second bend there was a small patch of branches down across the road.
Ok. Went out to move them.
And then I saw the downed wires...Not touching that.
(the only downed limbs on the road managed to knock out the only utility wires).

Had to back up a long slippery dirt road, at late dusk, on ice/snow, with no visibility behind.
No room to turn around. Tires spinning at some points. Barely enough traction at the peak of the slope.
I kept momentum up. Had to restart at the bottom a few times.

If I didn't make it back up that hill it would be next day until someone arrived.

Also NE Portland here. Wind is blowing pretty hard at times, snow mixed with ice, power has flickered a couple times. A friend a couple miles away has lost power. Another nearby had meaningful branches from their tree come down in backyard. If wind keeps up after trees are iced, we’ll have a lot more power outages.

I have my generator ready to go and enough gasoline for 24 hours runtime.. Disconnected my furnace from mains power, installed a temporary pigtail, currently plugged into the generator circuit’s outlet and running fine. If we lose power, I can plug the pigtail into my generator and at least keep the house warm. With a couple more cords I can run my modem/wifi, charge phones, etc. I still haven’t installed the transfer switch, so have to do the extension cord spaghetti for now.

I know it looks jerry-rigged, but with the panel back on everything is covered except the ground. I’ll restore it to normal after this storm.

-40 here this morning in the Canadian Rockies. No wind today, so that is better. Might hit -40 again tonight. Local hospital is asking for space heaters as the boiler cannot keep up.

Steve, those look like Juncos and Pigeons with a single Cardinal bottom right, with a Flicker top left and a very small Crow top right?

^^^ Mourning doves, Cardinals, Blue Jays (mostly in the am) and Chick-a-dees mostly.
I didn't see a crow when I took the pic....they are too smart to get a good pic.

Wow...that is cold. Wind is the worst thing at that temp.

Looks good here....but the rack looks to have a few empty spots.
That could be bad in a severe outage.
