The follow-up chemo is intended to kill those cells. The doc called the term "preventative" unfortunate, because it isn't intended to prevent cancer, it is intended to kill any existing cancer cells.

Major abdominal surgery suggests removal of organs for things like ovarian, cervical, colo-rectal, uterine, kidney or adrenal cancers. Of course, there are other possibilities. If she underwent a debulking procedure, using the term preventative chemo would not be at all responsible as there would definitely be cancerous tissue left in place. Cancer can be confined to an organ if caught early-ish but not offering/accepting precautionary chemo would be unusual if the pathology report indicated malignancy and CT/MRI/PET scans showed no areas of concern for metastasis. Tough to imagine her not getting the best care available to anyone anywhere, ever.

Thanks, Pav.

Wills has pretty much also lost his brother at this point, too. They are currently estranged: Mother, grandmother, father, brother, wife. Awful to think about.

Kate was looking pretty lean of late before the surgery. I think with much more weight loss she would look emaciated, cachectic almost.

Cancer doesnt discriminate and even the best care won't defeat many types of cancer. Even PET scans can miss certain cancers in certain areas. Also no guarantees chemo, radiation, or any therapy will work. Wishing her and anyone so diagnosed the best. Cancer caught with the first symptom took my wife in 11 months . Is is the ultimate bad ass illness .

I know not the slightest thing about her, but I wish her the best.

The girls at the beauty parlor have been
talking about the royal family all week,
I can't wait until the tabloids tell us what to
care about next.

I visit the Ugly Salon ... the visits are brief and we gossip about cars!
