In Ontario you are automatically covered for 14 days when you buy a car if you have a car with insurance. Law here. I tested it when my wife got into an accident the day after I bought a BMW and hadn't put insurance on it yet. The insurance company laughed at me when I made the claim, but I got the last laugh.

I didn't comment on the rationality, I said we do not know. And we do not.

I drive a car well into six figures without collision. If I wreck I will fix it or replace it.

We have mandatory liability and uninsured motorist coverage here in Washington. Problem is, it's so damned expensive (highest in the nation now - whoo hoo! we're #1!!!) that I've read estimates saying that up to 30% of our drivers are uninsured. We do have the option of posting a bond equal to our minimum liability coverage (I believe $100k). Collision is only required by the lending institution that holds the title. I'm not sure if we have any law similar to what Rod describes in Ontario.

That's not Paul Walker's car. Not sure what the other random crashed Porsches are supposed to signify.

Even paying cash, you have to provide the dealer proof of insurance on the car before you get the keys. At least that was my experience when I bought my car at the same dealer where this GT3RS was purchased.

You are only covered for what your previous car was covered by. That would limit the payout for a 'total loss' to the value of the old car (i.e theft, or not at fault collision) and it would not include collision insurance unless your previous car policy had collision.

So for minor issues, yes, you are covered for 14 days.

Liability ins should be mandatory everywhere.

And if dude did have Comp, what kind of premiums would that be?

Also, what kind of impact on those would a claim north of a quarter mil in a few days do to those?

Seriously, $5k per month? $25k ? Ins just says "not covering it"?

At what point does a $250k car become expendable and not worth the hassle of dealing with an adjuster?

Depends on the state. Some states require proof of insurance to issue registration, others don't. Va doesn't, but you have to check a box saying you have min coverage or pay an uninsured fee.

Encountered this in my lil ol town of twain harte the week leading up to last year's rennsport reunion. Spoke briefly with the wrecker driver who drug it up from its resting place down the side of a mountain on HWY 4 near bear valley ski resort. The rescuer said when he arrived there was a guy that was apparently at some point a Porche factory driver who was driving, and a dealer rep who it was on loan from. Asked him to describe the driver, he said short guy, early 40's, redish blonde curly hair.. hmmm....

I don’t know if it’s even a WA state thing. My comment was specific to the dealer where the GT3RS was purchased. And even then it was just my experience when I purchased a car there last year. I assume it’s their std process even when paying cash.

A topic with nothing but Seahawk warnings and thread closures would be excellent entertainment.

Watched that vid a few days ago. No way this makes any sense in a non youtube incentivized world.

I like matt and I hope the engine and gearbox are saveable.

I wonder what the cheapest normal 911 you could buy where any saveable good bits would bolt in? 991.1 with a blown motor?
