can you run Waze from your iphone onto a carplay screen? That would be nice.

I use CarPlay on my wifes 2018 Crosstrek. Apple Maps is seamless.

My wife cannot use her Android phone map software.

As others have said, CarPlay is great on rentals too.

Samee/agree. I've added it to my f250 by changing the head unit, and use a 'portable' unit on my honda pilot.

I probably wouldn't consider a new vehicle without it.

Call them and ask close the account. Retention will give you a $5 a month good for a year offer to stay with them.

When I realized I was pushing $50 a month for something neither I nor SWMBO uses more than an hour a month and Apple Music for the whole family was $17 getting rid of XM became an easy sell.

Carplay is far, far better than not having carplay. I have an aftermarket 10yo Pioneer 7" touch screen in the boxster. I used it without using carplay for a while. I could stream Pandora using the touch screen almost like the pandora app. I had to use the built in NAV if I wanted it on the screen or use it via the phone. I could make calls OK.

Carplay is like having a few useful phone apps integrated into the car, Waze (what I use) or Apple maps work great, calls (including zoom w/o video), texts read or dictated through the speakers and microphone, Pandora, and what's even better is at some point, the "multiple apps integrated into one screen" thing was added and works really well.
(something like this)

Yes, it does elbow stuff out of the way, but honestly, everything that I do is in Carplay, Pandora (always), Waze (most of the time), texts occasionally, but completely hands free, and calls (even less frequently). I don't do, want, or need anything else. I did once have a glitch with my phone for a drive and was able to switch to radio until I got someplace and was able to figure out the issue.

We also use it in the wife's car, or did until we had an issue with the touch screen.

I used to use Google maps. I tried Apple maps when I got carplay. Apple maps sucked. I hear that it got better, but I switched to Waze, and won't switch back. It's not perfect, but it does a great job of rerouting around horrible traffic, and warning about upcoming issues, police ahead, pothole ahead, object in road ahead, etc... I've had once or twice when someone must have been playing with that because in the course of 2 miles, I had about 10 different, random issues none of which were true. I got a chuckle out of it. You have to have a login for Waze, but these days, that's ubiquitous. I am always in "private" mode or something like that. Waze also learns how you drive so the time predictions are usually REALLY close. If you key in the same destination from my phone and my wife's phone, it gives 2 different ETAs.

Yep. It does occasionally do some slightly quirky stuff. We live about 4 miles from 2 on-ramps. I'm almost always driving east. Waze almost always tells me to go to the west most on-ramp. I ignore it and go east in about 100' down the road it reroutes and cuts 6 mins off my ETA. A couple of times it's told me to go an odd way, that was very unusual and ended up adding 5 mins to a route that normally takes 95-115 mins (so not a huge change). I've wondered if they occasionally pick someone at random to test run a different route. Even with that (super occasional) weirdness, it's far and away better than everything else I've ever tried both for route selection, re-routing around incidents, and the warning about police.

I've been using Pandora for probably close to 20 years. I think it was $4.99/mo, and now it's $5.99? It's not the same being able to say "play album XYZ by 123", but I like it. I've got "stations" created for many moods, and have been turned on to a lot of music that I probably wouldn't know about otherwise. Start a station with a particular song or group, and then it starts suggesting other groups/songs, thumb up or thumb down and you turn that into the station you want, reggae, blues, modern rock, classic rock, EDM, etc...

I haven't tried Apple Music or Amazon Music (but both have been pestering me for years "try a free trial" and "you're not using a free service".

We have all apple stuff here.
MacBooks through ipads, phones, watches and the tv app (kids watch mls). Use a Mac for work, so that helps - there’s a lot more stuff for it vs windows.

Without wanting to be too fanboy it all just works - and everything plays well with everything else. I can take a call on my laptop or my iPad without having to go get my phone.

Have prime too - wife listens to podcasts - but find Apple Music to be the go to.

Yep, I was originally an Android fan. I had the "G1" and then the "G2". Back then, Android was more feature rich than Apple. Eventually Apple caught up feature-wise. Then I got an iPad, then the wife got a Macbook Air. When she got the Macbook Air, she told me to "play with it" between the time that we bought it and Christmas to get it setup and learn it so I could be her tech support once she started using it. That 3 weeks had me hooked on MacOS (I had been a Microsoft die hard for a LOOONG time). We are now pretty solidly in the Apple camp. Now the interoperability between everything is the "feature" that makes it better. I could go on, but yeah, watches, phones, pads, computers, and an ATV.

I agree about liking it for consistency across rental cars. If i'm in an unfamiliar city in an unfamiliar car I don't want to fuss with my phone or some vehicle interface I've never seen, and CarPlay makes it better. I don't love it but it's handy and would be missed.

Won't buy a car without it and I will soon buy a "Motorcycle CarPlay" version of it. I run appts for work and my car is my office. I cannot work in the field without my iPhone and iPad. And I have a special mapping app that populates all my leads and customers for me to see how close I am to the next one when I get a no-show or have downtime to kill by checking in with customers.

It’s a must for me.

Can’t imagine anyone wanting a proprietary nav system in a vehicle today. Not to mention interface with things like pandora and messaging.

Pissed that the basic headphone jack is gone from the phone

Optional non-Free software so I am really not a fan

Has potential to be obsoleted/broken when you buy a new phone, etc

Nope, not for me by choice in anything !

I love it and use Google maps and Waze on it so not sure what no Google comments are about.

I need to do more research on CarPlay compatible apps. One I found is MyRadar which shows weather radar.

My wife loves it and I put in my old LC when I bought a new radio a few months ago. I don't use it for Nav since the screen is low and out of my normal driving scan. I use the radio remote to change stations, volume, etc.

I can say that I drove back from SC to Maryland yesterday, rain was crazy and there were two significant accidents...Waze and Maps gave me great alternative routes well in advance and saved me at least an hour or two on travel time.

All technology has limitations, but apps for driving are invaluable.
