^^^ I have come across 2 CDs from my collection that will no longer play….both about 30 years old. I saw a show by the Smithsonian a while back that discussed this inevitable problem for many. I talked to a friend who owns a record store since 1988 and he hasn’t noticed any alarming trend yet but it is a thing and I’ve now experienced it

I have ripped allot of mine. You could try a 2nd hand bookstore at a minimum get a store credit. I still have vinyl and some Sheffield direct to disk, but I won't part with them. Vinyl is sooo much better than CD or mp3

If you are into any genres outside of mainstream stuff cds can be worth a fair amount. Old punk and metal cds and some hip hop can be surprisingly valuable if you have first presses etc.

Remember when CDs used to be packaged in a rectangular cardboard sleeve? I still have the cardboard sleeve for my CD of Jane's Addiction, Ritual de lo Habitual.

Remember when your trouble maker friend would have a razor blade hung on a necklace, so they could slice those long boxes open? Hard to steal a long case, but easy to steal just the jewel case...

Old CDs are great to hang in fruit trees to chase birds away and keep them from eating your apples. I used to hang them over my blueberry bushes too. I now use mylar tape.

I gave mine to the Goodwill. Now my record collection, which is small but growing, is staying with me. Empire 598 turntable, 1st gen Bose 901s, Pioneer 9500.

I actually just bought a neat Yamaha 5 disc CD carousel off eBay and now play all my CDs in the garage when I'm wrenching...love it. Great way to remember the years gone by.

Music makes a good..great.
And a bad day..good.

I ripped all of my CDs years ago. Now they are behind my Plex media server and I can stream them anywhere and wherever I want. I did the same for my dad. Took is CDs, ripped them and built him a little Linux box that he uses as his 'jukebox.'

I may go back and re-rip everything now that I think about it. Its been over 20years since and I am all but positive I did not rip them lossless.
