OTOH, Porsche was only 40 seconds behind the winning Ferrari  An indication of how incredibly competitive the race has become. Not unusual in years past to have laps separating 1st thru 4th.

I know you used green font , but there were way too many pit interviews with no audio . Seemed very amateur to me .

It was an exciting race, spoiled only by the 5+ hours of safety car time.

Well, I guess the Porsche debriefing didn't take long. Cliff Notes version: we didn't have sufficient top speed and we screwed up several times.

So my question is if Fassbender was still trying would he have been on the Manthey EMA team? 😀

Congrats Lietz!

Mustang looks a bit bloated in that screen shot.

I wish they would drop LMP2...
I get it's a sort of privateer entry category and something of a feeder for Hypercar, but frankly those cars are bland/ugly and nobody cares except when they cause an accident in other classes. Hypercars have entered a golden era and are awesome looking, I mean the Ferrari and Cadillac expecially (Porsche made a platypus so I am not too sad the gorgeous Ferrari won 2 in a row). The GT3 cars are relatable to car enthusiasts (though used to sound better)... I'd say if the entry supports it, take the 18 fugly-blah LMP2s and replace with 1/2 Hypercars and 1/2 GT3s.....
Would anyone go see an LMP2 only race? I bet not.

Thats the entire point. To exaggerate the size of the vehicle, as has been done with BMW GT3 class cars in the past.

gentleman drivers pay the bills.

shame about caddy and porsche, i was cheering for both. esp after hyperpole showed they were both very fast.

That's photoshopped.

While I was happy to see LMP3 axed this year from IMSA (truly an amateur rolling chicane class), the LMP2 cars are actually quite fast and sound great (N/A Gibson V8)! But with the growth of Hypercar and GT3, the LMP2s may be forced out from lack of pit space in the future.

Jota LMP2 last year:

I am surprised by the lack of hoopla over the finish for the Mustang . To finish 3rd in class after 24 hours is quite the achievement . Especially so early in the cars development . It did much better than the Corvettes . The Manthey Porsche has a glorious exhaust melody , it just sounds right :D

CurtEgerer 06-17-2024 02:33 PM

^^^ Mustangs 3rd and 4th! A great achievement for the first time at Le Mans.

A crazy stat: there were 9 cars on the lead lap at the finish. In the history of the race, there have never been more than 2 cars on the lead lap

OK that does it then. Next year it's the 72 Hours of LeMans!;)

Based on their recent success in F1,
my money was on the alpine hypercars.
How'd they do? ;)

A930Rocket 06-18-2024 03:49 AM

What happened to the Camaro that ran last year? Was it there this year?

That was a Garage 56 class entry. That class did not run this year.

Like a lot of series these days, it's coming close to a sprint race. All out for 24-hours. Why? Because the engine reliability allows it (well, except for Alpine-Renault-Mecachrome  ). This makes tires and tire strategy all important. Not sure all of this is a good thing or not.
