Y'all think you'll trick me into telling you if my hair is dyed or not. Well, I'm not falling for that. Little do y'all realize there's no carpet!

And y'all thought you had me, ha!

Hang it on a fence and use a pressure washer?

Open the windows and set up fans for a couple days if your carpet is sopping wet. Just cleaning a carpet? open the windows

This is a very good practical answer. These Bissel home units are very decent. You need to put in more time vs the Lowe's rental equipment but it will clean the carpet in place just as nice and it's not extremely big and you own it. You can walk on the carpet in short order.

The hand wand will do the furniture upholstery.

Rinse the equipment - as mentioned in Apocolypse Now - with extreme prejudice. You will suck out a bunch of nasty stuff. Get that and the water with a cleaning agent out of the unit.

Bissell is the way to go. Get one of these and you'll find yourself using it a lot. Cleans autos and upholstery also.

Lowes is the place that sells these, the box will fit in a Camaro.

Rugs should be hung vertical to dry, that's the way the Oriental rug cleaners in Beverly Hills do it.

At that price I can probably rationalize the purchase.
Serious question, will it fit under a bed? I have a serious lack of storage.

I bought this Bissell recently. They claim it's the only upright cleaner that employs steam on the market and it really does work well. And can fit under a bed

Thanks for this great advice. I bought a Bissell Pet Pro off Amazon for $269. I figure it'll pay for itself over time. It did a great job. I even used it to cleaned my sofa and chairs.

Nice!

We've had several of the super cheap models over the years. We've also rented carpet cleaners from the grocery store and HW stores. It never seemed to make too much difference in the results to me other than the super cheap models being slower to get the job done. I suspect the much better model like you got to be as good or better than the rental model.

One thing that I've heard (don't know if it was mentioned previously) is that using soaps or detergents leave a residue that will attract/trap new dirt. I don't know if it's true or not. We've just used plain hot water and ended up with dirty water without using soap.

I suspect results have a lot to do with the nature of the rug/carpet/padding, etc...

Same here. Works fine without soap. If using soap, rinse and vacuum viciously.

The more you vacuum without rinsing the faster it will dry. A "No duh" statement unless you don't know.

Clean dirty water container afterwards. Don't do the "I'll clean it tomorrow" trick and open it up four months later.

Hose with hand held unit is wonderful on cloth car seats.

I’ve rented them quite a few times. They will definitely fit in your car.

They work well and you may be able to rent for 4 hours for under $20. Use their detergent and you will be happy. They suck 90% of the water back out so the carper dries quickly. They also have a car attachment so you can do the Camaro if it needs it.

It used to be that only the old orange RugDoctor machines were the only ones available to rent.
They were easy to use, bulletproof, but performance was so-so and it left a lot of water in the carpet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyZPHf2UzzU

Bissell bought out RugDoctor in 2022 i think:
https://www.law.com/corpcounsel/2022/10/13/rug-doctor-legal-chiefs-role-eliminated-after-companys-sale/?slreturn=2024100695819

I bought a Bissell big green model a while ago. It was ~$380 then IIRC.
Does a decent job with minimal water.
Downside:The thin plastic feels like something might break if handled rough. The seals are thin delicate and there are 7 of them to leak. Water reservoir is small and waste side difficult to empty. The wand brush is air driven and clogs up easily. It's longer and more difficult to maneuver.
