i have some pretty good people around me. dog people.
i have been working on my dog for years. he was reactive with other dogs. not in a good way.
all my friends have been so helpful. my people with calm non-reactive dogs have been volunteering their time and dogs to help. we go on group walks all the time. hikes, jogs. they come over to our house, we go to theirs. my dog is getting better and better. i did a 5 mile uphill death march with Hank and the calmest GSD. to the untrained eye, Hank looked like a perfectly trained dog. stayed in the heel position right next to me. just a year ago, i would have to hop off the trail and step far aside to let other dogs go by. now, i just keep walking. others have to take their dogs off trial to obscure their views with bushes..i know that drill well. hahah.. i have my dog goals set for 2026. the dog friendly beer garden. hahahha..

Nice! I remember when you were debating what to do. I'm so glad that you've seen positive results due to all of your work. Clearly Hank knows that you're in management now and sees the sort of leader that you are!
You should post pics of the good boy! (the dog, not a selfie)

That’s fantastic. A well trained dog is a great companion.

I would love some insights on this. My pup is sort of a jerk at times.

He looks like a good boy! So many dog owners don't understand how important it is to socialize their dog, both with other dogs and people they're not familiar with. (There are plenty of people out there who could use a lesson in socializing too)

Awww Hank looks like a good pup for sure. I wish I could figure out exactly how to get our toy Aussiedoodle, Daisy, to bond more with me and not try to tear my head off when I come home from work. We have tried services that help train dogs and even tried meeting with a behaviorist, they all say she is a "fearful dog". She is only a little over 2 years old now and has gotten a little better, but it has been a lot of work. When my wife and daughter are out of town for a week or so, Daisy is the sweetest girl, very snuggly and is right by my side but when they are home, she acts like she has no idea who I am most of the time, mainly when I come home from work. I just keep showing her that she has nothing to be afraid of and maybe one day it will finally click.

Congrats on some success! He looks like a good boy.
I don't have dogs (not home enough and that's not fair to any dog) but love them. I live vicariously through friends' dogs. They're almost always happy to see me... |

Your journey with Hank has been awesome Cliff!
He has taught you how to behave around others now ... and we know that wasn't easy
