Everyone seems really excited about them to the point of bragging. Assumed that meant prestigious. Finally got a close look at one and it seems about Toyota Corolla level finish. Maybe not that nice.

Polestar and Rivien have more panache. Hell, a nice S60 Volvo (or a C40 if you want to compare apples to apples) is more prestigious in my eyes, and far less commonplace than any new Tesla except the Cyber-yuck.

10 years ago, what electric vehicles could you buy? The Tesla was unique in the marketplace and they were expensive. There were no 30K dollar Teslas, new or used. You didn't even see that many of them in California. In 2014, Tesla only sold around 32K cars. In 2024 Tesla produced over 1.8 million vehicles globally and now every manufacturer has an EV product line. I don't think any vehicle manufacturer that produces 1.8 million vehicles can be considered prestigious. Porsche for example produces about 350K cars a year.
The thing that's interesting to me is that current manufacturers have just barely caught up to the technology Tesla had in their vehicle 10 years ago. Other then lucid and Rivian, most New EVs don't have to much more range then my 10 year old Model S, and with the over the air updates the car has received over the years, it's actually better then it was in 2014.

Can any tech company be a prestige brand? Apple maybe gets the closest with its history and quality production. Prestige seems more Like Rolls Royce, Patek, LV, Steinway & Sons.......things that are finely made with heritage and long service life.
