Get off my lawn!

That will be a sad day.
I have had my 911 for only 29 years and My El Camino 33 years. I can't imagine selling either one. I figure the day I can't get out of the 911 easily, I will put it up for sale.

Yikes. I sold mine 20y ago and I've been kicking myself for the last 18. ( I was able to fool myself for 2 good years). Will be easier for you as they are worth a mint nowadays, I give you 3 years ;-)

Maybe. But after 48 years in PCA and 51 years of owning at least one Porsche, I can't even imagine it. I have dozens of good friends I would have never met had it not been for my Porsches and PCA.

Well my sitch is tangential but I'm having trouble parting with the Ducati. It's totally irrational but real nonetheless.

No regrets here, either...However, the old '72S will always be my automotive "love of my life". I wish it had never entered that "collector car" realm. The more valuable it became, the more paranoid I got about driving it, and the more I got approached by people I didn't like much wanting to buy it. Not true enthusiasts, but people just wanting things that were prized by others. A bragging rights thing.

Greetings from Cenral PA.
In the end I didn’t sell the car, I gave it to my son. My plan was to get it back in shape after I retired and take it on some more epic journeys. I’ve driven it all over the US in many trips. When my son was 5 we made a nest for him behind the seats and we traveled from Ohio to a 356 Registry meet in Medford, Oregon, then Colorado before coming home. His mom and I being mostly broke college kids the three of us mostly lived in the car the whole trip. I once drove from Ohio to Calgary and then up through the Canadian Rockies until the pavement ran out somewhere north of Jasper. Lots of memorable trips, coast to coast, seeing things I’d never seen - enjoying the gift of being young. Well, reality reared its ugly head. Facing one hard truth after another it became obvious that I wasn’t going to have any more epic road trips, not in that car and most likely never in any car. I told my son I was preparing to put it on BaT. We started reminiscing about how much fun we had on the many adventures we’d had, one thing led to another, and, well, I offered to give him the car.. First I was going to have one last adventure and drive it to him in Boston, but I had to face the reality that even that wasn’t going to happen. The car was ready and I was willing, but humans don’t age as well as Porsches. So here I am in Central PA on the way to Boston with the car on a frikkin’ trailer.

Kudos.

The last part of the story defines bittersweet. The first part of the story defines one of the great, romantic stories of why we love our cars. You're a good man, Patrick.
