Unintended joys of golf

Started really playing last spring/summer and making some progress. Have found I really prefer walking as well.

Big benefit is 2+ miles of walking for 9 holes. Secondary benefit is when I come upon wildlife on the course. Frequently see deer very close. This was a doe eating on the next tee box.

As I walk around to the next tee box I see she has two babies with her in the brush by the water. She watched me as I walked up and teed off.

Maybe not a big deal for most but what a cool thing to share a space with such beautiful and gentle animals.

That is so cool!!! We put veggies out at the edge of our woods and deer come up and eat. We have seen Doe and babies also, so cool.

If that's your bag... tip of the hat to the Mizuno irons!

It is and thanks! I’m not good enough for them probably but the feel on flushed shots is addictive. And I don’t seem to do any better with true improvement irons like the 425.

Every golf bag needs a .30-06 :)

Addicted here too! 3 times a week and also prefer to walk…unless it’s too hot. Love being outside, beautiful setting and lots of cool creatures. This looks photoshopped but it’s not, I took it with my phone.

I have 425's and started playing in a men's league 3 years ago and I still suck!

Another one not photoshopped…they don’t mess with you if you don’t mess with them (most of the time)!

Damn and I felt like I had a great excuse for blading a 15 yard chip because a 6’ snake was a few feet behind me.

3rd_gear_Ted 08-02-2024 09:45 AM

Its a sport if you walk and a game if you ride.
Hitting the 15th hole and still having your game going after walking for 4 hours & 4 beers in the blazing sun is all I ask for.
I wasn't in the military but I golf that way; left, right, left, right.

berettafan 08-02-2024 09:54 AM

I can identify. I get to see the WHOLE course when I golf. My neighbor who is about a 6 enjoys pointing out parts of the course he never sees when he golfs without me.

I've always preferred walking. Helps to contemplate your next shot and cuts down on the beer consumption.

I just bought a new (to me) set of Ping Eye 2 Beryllium irons to replace my old Ping black dots. I understand "it's the Indian, not the arrow" but hopefully it shaves a few strokes off my game. Also switching to metal stiff shaft as opposed to graphite flex shaft.

Who said golf just spoils a nice walk?
