Does anyone use a dash camera for liability purposes?

I've had a few over the years. Right now I'm using a Garmin. They're the best IMO but they're expensive.

Also... Garmin now have a "satnav" with a built in "dashcam".

Yes, absolutely!

I bought two FitCamX cameras, for my E450 and E350, I highly recommend them.

Installation for the forward camera took less than 5 minutes. Forward camera or Forward camera and rear camera available.

Custom made for your car looks OEM, multiple colors available.

Forward camera was $199 for my Mercedes, for my Sisters VW it was $159.

I have a VIOFO A119 MINI 2. It’s ok. No real complaints

We use LYTX cameras for the work trucks. Probably not the best bang for the buck for an individual.

Same here. I wish the app to watch, edit and or download video clips was better.

Same. I got so frustrated with it the first week, I haven’t looked at it in a year. I just let the camera do its thing and don’t think about it anymore

Using Viofo a129 duo pro. Easy to install and lots of configuration for parking mode, etc.

You want at least 2k resolution at 120Hz frame rate. The faster the frame rate the better a still image will be if you need to pull a plate number or id a face.

These also have very good nighttime resolve.

You can get a good assessment of various car cams by watching car crash videos, which often have mfg watermarks denoting what cam is used. In my research the Viofo was among the best at the time.

Timely thread. My VIOFO seems to be on the blink. It keeps asking me to format the card and when I do, it just keeps asking over and over again. I can’t use the app, because the camera card issue. I’ve unplugged and plugged it in multiple times. This is my second one in 3 years.

I’ve got Vizio brand cameras in use for all of our cars and my truck. For the Carrera S I’ve got the rear camera option as well. I’ve been pleased with that brand over the years.

I have been using BlackVue cameras in my cars for 10+ years; front and rear coverage and no issues. Here in CA, I have stopped and twice given my recorded file to people who were hit and run in traffic in front of me when I commuted to work.

It appears in CA "illegals" get cheap, trash cars, rarely register them in their name upon purchase and when they crash they flee/abandon the cars. Being able to prove to police or an insurance company that is what happened is well worth the price of the camera.

I need to get a dash cam. for what it's worth, the last two people that hit me and tried to run were both white dudes. neither one of them had insurance, and both of them drove POS **** "borrowed" cars.

I checked my Amazon purchase s and I bought this last VIOFO camera back in March of this year. The first one lasted about three years. I’ve taken the camera out to delete the files on the card and format it. I’ve got a new one on order and if I can’t fix this one, I’ll keep the new one.
