thats, BY DEFINTION, a subjective experience.
There’s subjective, and then there’s arbitrary.

Even with a subjective opinion, the intelligent person has criteria. For their version of fun, they may want the car to be a ragtop, or lightweight, or have a low 0-60 time, or a certain top speed, a certain engine type, etc. That’s reasonable.

Announcing a car can’t be fun because it’s German? That’s arbitrary. (VW Bus? Thing? Beetle?)

My subjective take is the Porsches that are the most fun are the so-called entry-level cars: the original Speedster, the 914-6, the 944 (the most fun Porsche ever), the Boxster. When the Porsche engineers are freed from the constraint of forcing their ideas into a 911 shape, you get something special.

I was offered a 1970 911E coupe in silver once that was pretty tired looking. Still, it's one that got away.
Boxsters in silver are nice. That, black, Arena Red and some of the blues are great on Boxsters.

Tired white 911s are really bad. I had an 86 that I decided to part out vs. repaint.

what is arbitrary about german?

we are talking about the personality of a car, and german is a very good description of the personality of a car like a 911. modern 911s are too german to be fun.

like, you watch a bunch of car youtubers or top gear all day make pronouncements like this (clarkson did **** like this all the time), and then can't wrap your head around someone else. calm down, un bunch your panties and you'll be fine. we arnt in the "every gear shift is like handy cuase its a porsche" part of the internet. its just a car.

It’s been a while since I’ve encountered someone this lacking in self-awareness. You are describing yourself. You’re the one with making pronouncements about an entire culture based on a few products you’ve owned or sampled. And what’s arbitrary is you claiming German cars aren’t fun like you have the slightest idea what you’re talking about.

This is America - our most cherished freedom is the freedom to be stupid, to spout ignorant nonsense and claim everyone else is uptight when they call us out on it. But don’t get your panties in a bunch when someone points it out.

i didnt say all german cars werent fun. i said the 911 was too german to be fun.

modern minis are german, and they are fun. esp the first gen super charged ones.

not sure what about this conversation inspired *checks notes* patriotism ... but i suspect that just means you lost the plot of the conversation a while back. calm down, i know i got everyone's panties in a bunch by describing 911s as not fun, but like, porsches dont have to be perfect and everything, to everyone.

like you are taking "not fun" as an insult, when its not. its just a characteristic.

Oh Shaun, you didn’t hurt my feelings with the silver stuff. Well maybe a little since your my car coolness guy. 😀
I had an AWD 996 and loved the feel of it. In the rain it seem to grip really. Yeah it’s not the lightest gizmo but most folks are not timing their rides to and from the supermarket.

please don't confuse me with someone nice or thoughtful. And really, I think silver Boxsters are very smart. The '01 S I looked at years ago was silver and a very pretty car.

But your Guards Red C4S was dropdead gorgeous. I should have done some sort of intervention on that one.

Cobalt Blue is possibly my number one choice on a 997.1 coupe. I let one get away on BaT that I am still kicking myself over.

How YOU view the personality of a car is completely subjective. How someone else views the personality may be completely different.

It's not unlike how various people view one person. 5 people may know a 6th person, and have completely different perceptions of the 6th person's personality. One may think "6 is super flaky!", then another "6 who? The boring guy", then another "6 is hilarious" and one may think "6 is so sexy" while the last might think "6 is a total A-hole!"

Cars are the same. And the issue is that you post your subjective opinion on matters as if they are objective facts. I can't believe I got sucked in by you again, but I'm done with this particular line of discussion since I know it's not going to go anywhere.

Have a good one, sir!

You telling me! I let a Cobalt 997.1 turbo with 27k get away from me because I didn't want to pay $65k for it.

no where have i stated an opinion as objective fact. in fact i explicitly agreed with you that personality is a subjective factor.

now you are just making stuff up to mad about.

so, have a good one.

That car was too much for me from a flash stand point. I loved that car but it just wasn’t me.

^ I wish I had a top down picture like that of my three latest widebodies.

1992 911 Turbo, 2003 911 Turbo and the 2010 GT3RS (which cheats in the front with addend fender flairs if you can even call them that).

Here's my best pic of the car. I took it to create Thuy's Secret Santa present, "Curves are for Hugging" back in 2013.
