Question Question about laptop charging

I've had desktop computers for 35 years (started with a Commodore 64) but am brand new to laptops.
Got a Lenovo with Win 11 that has a dedicated port just for charging.

Maybe I'm over-thinking it but, is it OK to have the power cable connected to the laptop but not have the power adapter plugged? Will the adapter drain the battery in the laptop? I very really thought about it with things like the cell phone because it gets unplugged when done charging. The battery in the laptop is a bigger deal.

I've done that a few times without issue Joe. I'm not an EE but I don't see how current would flow back into charger.

Not an EE either but with an unknown black box connected there has to be more of a chance of some kind of micro vampire draw than there is without the cable connected

Also when not connected there is no risk of dropping it just right enough to shove the connector in harder and break it internally. Has happened to me, got laptop with foot preventing screen/etc damage but the powee adapter was at hust the right spot to hit hard and broke the connector where it attached to the pcb etc

fwiw Dell and their nbdos warranty rock

There shouldn't be an issue. Any type of DC charger like that is going to have a diode in it that would prevent any type of "reverse draw".

You need that laptops used in all movies now days. They never ever have them plugged in to anything, and can hack the FBI or CIA in just minutes. And they never have a low battery!

I have a Microsoft Edge laptop. It has a magnetic attachment to the charging port. I usually have it plugged in when I am using it as the screen is brighter. I doubt the charging port would ever draw power back out from the battery.
