Like him singing The Man Who Sold the World. Hypnotizing. Thanks for posting. |

You're watching the official music video for Laura Branigan - "Gloria" from the album 'Branigan' (1982). This cover of Umberto Tozzi's Italian song "Gloria" reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 36 weeks on the chart, setting a new record for a single by a solo female act at the time.

Pearl Jam covering Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns by Mother Love Bone. Very moving. Lot of backstory to this. I don't know if it's better but it's nice to hear it being sung all these years later. RIP Andrew.

Not better... maybe not even equal to Waits' original, but certainly a worthy retelling.

I really like covers where a different interpretation has been put on the original.

Speaking of different interpretations, YMSB's bluegrass cover of the Stones' 'No Expectations' is my favorite version. For me, it's the definitive one, as I had somehow never heard the original before I heard this one. Plus I love Bluegrass. I've been listening to YMWB since the early 2000s so I picked a version from then.

15 years ago before HD video was commonplace. One evening at some non-descript, random, 3 star strip mall pizza joint in the Atlanta suburbs (Smyrna, GA). A local musician Dad climbs on stage with two of his fat, middle-aged band buddies, his high school daughter (17) and her friend (16) and proceed to create this incredible live cover. No auto-tune, no post-production. David Crosby (RIP) and Graham Nash both compliment them. I still find it amazing all these years later.

Don't know if these are "better than the originals" as described by the OP, but this trio of old blues songs were made FM radio famous by rockers. I guess its as good a way as any for youngsters to get indoctrinated into classic blues music.
(I'm a little surprised they haven't been posted yet, but except for Thorogood, they're not that great.) <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/U4XbV3gCm2Y?si=ubxaqTDtj0I0HR-i" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/gweUVWUYYQ8?si=y0FP0pw1zy63Injs" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/--AvCsh48bk?si=CxjVSPchTYya0gRt" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
