Denny McLain is still alive at 80 years old. Winning 31 games in 1968 propelled the Tigers through the season and into the World Series against St Louis and Bob Gibson. He ran into trouble the next couple seasons and was traded to the Washington Senators. He retired in 1973 after being traded to a few other teams. His gambling troubles led to bankruptcy while playing with the Tigers. He was out of baseball at the age of 29.
