A thing that caught my eye in this post from Shaun this morning is how the military is using AI to process changing infrastructure seen in enormous image databanks, a task that used to be done by humans painstakingly comparing photos. AI is also (apparently) able to discern the reasons for the changes and suggest ideas for counteraction.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/1187025-drones-ai-data-analytics-future-war.html#post12575784

I have to imagine that teams that are currently sorting through vast piles of 'spy' photos taken at every opportunity are looking at AI for exactly the same reason. I do know that the teams run hundreds of simulations the night before a race after qualifying to try to determine how which strategies will yield the highest theoretical finish. There's no reason not to let AI help in figuring out how new ideas from other teams will help the car.

(At the beginning of the year, I figured McLaren with their fancy brake ducting technology wouldn't be challenged at all throughout the whole year; the ability to control tire temp like that seemed like a complete gamechanger, along the lines of the Mercedes powerplant at the beginning of the Lewis era) but somehow, Redbull figured something out that superceded the McLaren dominance. AI? Who knows!)

That could be quite an effort, but teams may already have elements in place to evaluate spy data. Likely they have ways of "converting" images to 3D models and then using standardized tools to predict the impacts of the changes per whatever metrics they deem important. Possibly AI would be part of and an extrapolation of the assessment process.

Tsunoda has already been dumped.

Maybe Colapinto, but I don't know his contract situation.

Stroll has a good job security with dad, but a old man has sure shown him what he should be doing.

I wonder when dad will decide his son has used enough money, and move along.

The car was a pig and Alonso is one of the all time greats. No wonder the guy comes off a prick with all the ribbing he has had. I am actually hoping they have a good package next year and they both get podiums.

Colapinto stays.... He has lots of sponsors, and sadly Doohan did not show that much more promise. Not much else changes, Yuki becomes reserve driver at REdbull, Hadjar moves up to partner Verstappen, and Linblad replaces him at racing bulls.

Honestly the one I do not understand is Lawson... I'd have kept Yuki over Lawson. I'd have tried an F2 driver also...

So not too much movement until the 2026 car reveals which motorist got it right, did mercedes indeed make the best engine again, Will Newey pulled a rabbit out of a hat, is the Ford/redbull engine gonna be a dog or not... All that will have serous implications on 2027 moves. Sounded like all drivers were happy to see the back of this generation of cars, too bouncy, heavy, no more DRS either (I like that)

Lawson's attitude doesn't seem to match up with his talent, but this is his first year. Yuki's had 5 years to prove he belongs, his stats are mediocre, his temper is mercurial.

Hadjar has the best chance at Red Bull that anyone has since Checo - if he's up to the workload - a top team with brand new regs where everyone's input will have merit as they refine the package.

With my minimal grasp of modern slang, there seems to be a lot of "seat blockers" on the grid.

It is rumored that Mercedes and Red Bull have found a loophole in the new regs regarding compression ratio . The compression ratio I think is a max of 14:1 and the test for that is done while the engine is cold . MB and RB supposedly have found a way to meet the cold test but also to have a hot ratio of 16:1 . That increase is supposedly worth 15 hp . I didn't really understand the article but it had to do with the combustion chamber expanding when hot and increasing the compression ratio . Let the new regs begin

In order for the compression ratio to increase with an increase in temperature, either the connecting rod would have to lengthen or the piston crown would have to bulge. I would guess the latter. An increase in the size of the combustion chamber would have the opposite effect unless the material could expand into selected areas.

14:1 to 16:1 compression on a forced induction engine? That doesn't sound right at all.

The previous regulations allowed maximum compression ratio of 18:1 . The 2026 regulations the max is 16:1 . My previous statement was wrong regarding 14:1 . This video a little over 4 minutes long does a good job explaining what some folks think Mercedes and Red Bull are doing to get to 18:1 when the engine is hot . Quite clever actually .

It shouldn't even be controversial. (Apparently), two teams read the rules, designed the PU to meet the rules and cleverly adapted some ideas and technologies to gain an advantage without overstepping the letter of the regulations.

The 'spirit of the rules' no longer comes into play when you're talking about the cubic millions of dollars spent in F1 deep in the 21st century.
