What Sneakers
I assume no one here is a really serious sneakerhead. But I’ll guess some are a little serious. So it got me curious. You’re going to spend up to serious money - you define, three, four or five if you’re that loaded - on a single pair of sneakers and YOU HAVE TO WEAR THEM i.e. they can’t be “for investment”.
What sneakers?

I never collected them, but I only buy Skechers. I must have 6-7 pairs right now. They are the only brand I've found to fit my feet right.
Plus, now you can get them in slip-in style....very comfortable. I have a pair ordered from Amazon right now. $52 Supposed to be here Tues.

Saw these recently at a mall store that specialized in high-end sneakers. Each individual shoe on the shelves was shrink-wrapped

Saucony or Mizuno. Maybe Hoka if I can find some I like.
Unless hiking. Then Lowa. I’m too cheap to buy the really really expensive stuff. |

What are you going to do with these sneakers, or are they just for kicking around?

Your choice, can use them as intended or just kicking around - but they’re going to get worn, dirty, used up, eventually.

The day I spend $200 or more for sneakers, just call the mental hospital and have me committed.
No way in hell would I be interested in "collector" shoes. I have no issues with someone else spending their money on whatever. It makes as much sense as a $10,000 purse.

Whatever you buy make sure they're appropriate for...
Stomping on the avenue by Radio City with a Transistor and a large sum of money to spend

Buy New Balance walkers or something appropriate.
Gel Inserts go a long way. The greatest investment you will make will be to yourself and own body....not to some media fad.

I like Salomon. No street cred, or suitable for hangin' out in the ghetto. But well made and light.
I used a pair of trail running boots as work boots. They have been steadily demoted to painting boots, but are still in going order. https://www.hypedc.com/nz/brands/salomon Another pair I like are Allbirds. https://www.allbirds.com/collections/mens-runners |

Does anyone else call all athletic shoes "tennis shoes"?
Mebbe it's a southern thang.... I paid top $ for my last pair of b-ball high tops before my knee said "no mas" ... barely broken in.... I threw 'em away a few years ago.... White Air-Jordans ... white leather, no bling... around '87 ... might have spent a Benjamin and a Jackson .... tops. I have entered the Twilight Zone now ![]() |

If you are going to wear them, go to a specialized runner's shop, they know the sneakers they sell inside out and out. I liked Hoka's (based on a friend's review) but they don't fit me in the same way Saucony's do.
Sneakers, shoes really, like tires, I don't mind spending a lot of money on them. They are what connect you to the surface of the world. Makes sense to get the best ones for you, or your car, you can get.

There are so many kinds of sneakers for so many purposes, one size DOES NOT fit all purposes. You aren't going to enjoy running flats for spading up your garden.
What are you going to use them for? I have a pair of Sketchers step-in shoes that are comfortable for walking and knocking around the house, but they aren't running shoes.

So many now have the fabric on top and I’ve had a couple pairs like that
![]() The problem for me is my big toe puts a hole through it so I look for sneakers that have leather on top. More like this ![]() |

I have a feeling none of you passed this test! My youngest son is a “sneakerhead” and exposed me to an entirely new world of allocated, low volume custom shoes that I didn’t know (or frankly care) existed. It’s as much a collector thing as it is for wearing. He loves Nike Dunks and Jordans and at any given point in time has 2-3 pairs of them, it’s his typical request for Christmas and birthday gifts. You don’t get them at a normal store, there are small boutique shoe stores that sell a small variety of these shoes, and when they’re gone they are gone. The upside is that when he’s done with them, I can typically sell them on EBay and get about 50% of the money back.

Collector shoes sound much like Benie Babies. A hot item for a few years, and then drops to zero value. I wear white Reebok Classics in a 10 wide. I have EEE feet, and few off the shelf shoes will fit me. The Classics are very popular with male nurses, who stand up almost all day. Very comfy, and great support. The Classic come in a wide version, and once lased up, I barley have enough shoelace to tie them up with my wide feet.
When we get "dressed up" I put on the same shoes that I wore in my wedding 32 years ago. They had to be special ordered to be wide enough.
