Sending pawsitive vibes for your little one, Denis. PLEASE do whatever it takes to give her the proper medical attention. $6-8K is outrageous, for sure.....and I know you have better options. What about some of the medical outfits helping with the fires?

That little kitty cat will pay dividends down the road providing you with much needed companionship....and keeping you sane!

Prayers sent......

Good luck Denis! Mebbe be willing to "drive kitty" to a less expensive option (i.e. not an emerngency place, or even a hospital)? There is no way in hell that Paul is paying for all of the tab ... whatever it is ... fwiw.

That my be the reason Vet clinics have become targets of Private Equity vultures. And the Private Equity vultures may be the reason prices keep going higher.

Thank you for helping the cat!

About five years ago, myself and two other neighbors split an $8K vet bill for a stray cat that lived outside. She had a compound fracture, needed plates, screws, you name it… she recovered in my house and now lives a great life indoors with one of the two other neighbors. She’s the sweetest most appreciative cat ever. It was worth every penny!

The price for this sounds excessive… but, it is CA and overhead is nuts there. I would call as many vets and research as much as possible until I found somebody who has a holistic / reasonable treatment.

You may be surprised that possibly the biggest “vulture” is the Mars company. Yes, the candy bar company. Mars is a privately owned and very profitable family business worth billions of dollars. Last I heard they had acquired and own considerably more than 5000 vet clinics and animal hospitals across the country. They own VCA (vet clinics of America) as well as Blue Pearl and Banfield (Banfield clinics are in most PetSmart stores nationwide).

No, but I'd sure as hell match WD's 50...anybody else care to volunteer? A "save speeder's cat" thread...

She started really waking up right when I got her home and began thrashing inside the carrier like a banshee. I had to immediately remove the cast, which was a lot of fun on an enraged cat.

Would a simpler, smaller aluminum splint be ok? She will not tolerate a big cast, I'd have to tranquilize her the entire time. I could easily fashion a custom aluminum splint plus ace bandage or something.
I would not recommend that you try to fabricate and apply a splint to an awake cat. Your injuries will be many and painful.

Yeah, this shocked me a while back. DIL works for Mars in their pet food division and corporate figures America will spend anything on their pet.

Another reason to spend the 8k on der cat is he has 15 or more good years ahead of him. Happy years.

Similar I guess. 10 years ago I agreed to look after a foster kitten with a bung eye for the weekend. I fell in love with the lil' fella the first evening. I paid for three eye operations then it turned out he had a bad knee and needed his knee cap relocated and a chunk of bone relocated too. I don't regret spending the money for a moment. He looks at me a purrs furiously and starts doing rollies to show off. He brings so much joy and uncoditional love into the home.

I would use the good leg for a template and not apply it until after it's repaired, or have the technician at the hospital do it while she is still anesthetized. She a very calm cat most of the time.

Will do. I've been doing tons of research and making calls as time allows, I'm driving her out to Pomona tomorrow for an appointment at a veterinary college that seems really good. The consult is only $65 which is important because I'm about to spend a grip of money on this kitty.

Her name is Buddy, named before I could get close enough to her to determine gender. Now, she's never far from my side. Such a great cat.

Spend anything on a pet is right. I knew I was a "modern" pet owner when I spent $5,000 in 2008 having my then 10 year old lab's ACL repaired. He did live another astonishing 6 1/2 years and had a good quality of life. He was my baby and I would have done almost anything for him. That was a tough one though. Here he is late in life with one of my cats who is also sadly gone.

Without a doubt..."Buddy" has wormed her way into the heart of Denis. May this end well & they spend a long time together.
