After a long hiatus, I started drawing again. No, I haven't pulled the paints out yet.

Nice work. Reminds me of Jon Voight.

Cat Stevens was once an art student imagined a career as a cartoonist. He painted 4 of his album covers, and remade Tea for the Tillerman in 2020. I think his work is wonderful.

People who make music or visual art amaze me. I don’t have the skill or the imagination for it. I do OK with words. I think all art has one or both of two goals*, to tell a story and/or to evoke an emotion. This painting evokes a feeling of peace, and invites you to make up your own story. *Three goals if you include meeting a deadline.

There are many more goals in art.
This, for example, was an experiment with geometry, vanishing points, perspective and composition:

With the lines overlaid, reminds me of a Stancin.

WRT to the painting in your post it looks like a cartoon to me. I'm sure the person the painted if got tremendous satisfaction but it doesn't convey a thing to me other than a dingy tied up on some water. But I see no point in still life paintings of fruit in a bowl so that's just me. |
