I'd like to know what Alfa this is, I'm no expert and google image search returned nothing but porsches for some reason! It was hand written on the back that it was taken at the El Morraco which after a search is a hotel in Hot Springs CA.

There was a Disco Volante in the original Mission Impossible (Thunderball) starring the original Ethan Hunt (007) climbing the wings and an evil villain Largo.

Great find. It would be cool to get some of those professionally scanned and color corrected.

It's amazing how well-preserved those photos are. No scratches, no bends or broken corners, and all the cars are very historically significant. Love the side view of the Alfa. I'd like to know who the driver is that's staring lasers into the camera, and what car that is. At first I thought it might be Tazio Nuvolari, but he was a little feller, if I remember correctly. Nice to see he's wearing his safety polo shirt. Man those guys were brave.

We were talking about this last night! Goggles, polo, gloves... a different breed. Pure driving.
Imagine how many more albums like this are out there or how many have been tossed in the garbage after someone passes!! * Quote:

A few more, behind the speedster is an early barndoor bus. There is another bus with huge "Volkswagen" lettering across the side and rear. I'm guessing it's a Brundage Motors support bus. Anyone recognize that one? It's behind the Cooper Climax.

That LeGrand Mk 3B might have been the car my uncle owned and raced in 72 or 73. I need to look at my old photos. May have even had the #69 on the car at the time too. Wouldn't that be a small world story.

I think those are all Deutsch-Bonnets in the photos after the Ferraris.

The El Morocco was a swanky nightclub in NYC back when that photo was taken. That's where they are, with the early '50s NY taxicab behind them. Amazing car and photo!

Thank you for clarifying that, makes more sense being taken outside of a nightclub in NY than a hotel in CA.

I gave this image a bit of color correction to bring back the green that often fades out over time with Kodachrome. Not even close to original but I think it's a little closer.

On the purple car, I wandered into Hollywood Sports Cars one day in 1966. I still have the one sheet for the 275 GTB. The price the salesman wrote on the brochure was $13,750, which was about $13,000 more than I had at the time.
On the LeGrand, I knew Red really well from 1970 until his death in the '80's. He was a character and a talented designer and engineer. The problem with the F-5000 cars he built was they were based on his Formula B chassis and the difference in the B motor (140 h.p.) and the 5000 motor (450 h.p.) made the car flex too much and I'm told it was a handful to drive. These pictures are great. Everyone of them would mean something to someone somewhere if you could make the connection. You almost have to publish them all somehow and then have folks who were there explain the history. Not many left now who can explain the early stuff. |

Wow. Very cool find.
I'd say those were taken by a professional.
