Made Vietnamese shaking beef with ribeyes on the grill last night and wanted something that would complement the plate's richness, sweetness and somewhat hardy nature when made as a sandwich with egg and Pâté vs a crisp pilsner that would cut more than complement. Would have gone with a Chimay or Ommegang but found this quadruple. Of course malty, very sweet, brown sugar and raisins, it was a winner. And at 10.2%, one was enough for a very pleasant laid back rest of the evening.

Nice that you can find Boulevard in Boston, they are from KC. Nearly everything they make is good. Tank 7 is considered a farmhouse ale though some bars list it as an IPA, one of my all time favorite beers. If you ever see their Smokestack Series beers give them a look, most of them are in a larger wine style bottle and they are individually numbered and limited release.

I'm also a giant Tank 7 and Sixth Glass fan. The other quad I like is Three Philosophers from Ommegang, but its getting harder to find here.

When I was in France a couple weeks ago - really liked the 1664 with a slice of lemon

I like Three Philosophers. 1664 Blanc can sometimes be hard to find but that’s a nice refreshing beer.

Got a 6-pack of Tank 7. Pours with quite a head making it hard to wait for a proper drink. It's a very nice beer for sure, lot of fruit, easy to drink in the same way the double IPA I opened with. You'd never think it was 8.5%. Good for summer, I think it would pair well with chicken dishes and pork chops and some kind of apple compote and chutneys. And would be good with apple pie for sure.

Great recommendation!

Glad you liked it! It will definitely sneak up on you, I had it on tap for a while. Made for some interesting nights when I had friends over that were unaware.

We have friends that live in KC and when they come home to visit family, they always bring my wife a case of Boulevard Wheat. I don't particularly like it because it has a very yeast taste to me.

It’s a very “bready” wheat beer, I totally agree. If you’re ever in KC their brewery and tasting room is quite good. They have all of their new and experimental beers on tap and you can rate them.

Was down in Newport yesterday so had to have a local beer with fried clams with bellies, which were delicious, as was the beer, perfect complement. Busy eating and drinking, found a good pic on web. Double IPAs are my new favorite beer.

This looks interesting, I’m going to see if I can find it locally.

If ever in Vermont, a longtime friend owns this brewery.

Good thing we are allowed to have different tastes. I can't enjoy an IPA, they taste to me like someone screwed up the recipe. Our local breweries make pilsner I enjoy in the summertime. In winter I tend to switch to a dark ale. So many beers, so little time.
