Just like the pioneers

I got into my home office today and the internet is down! Gasp.

I am reduced to using only my phone to access the internet. This is like the 1970s !!

Well, I did not have a smartphone back then, so I do have a lifeline.

It may be another hour before I the cable company can get it restored. We all forget how much the internet is part of daily life. I can’t read the newspaper, I can’t do my bookkeeping, I can’t stream any shows. This is barbaric.

Happens occasionally at my brick and mortar office. As a small printing company all orders and communication is by email. Roger's just switched our phones and CC payment system to digital so we can't even use the phone or take payments.
Can only look out the window.

LOL!

I would have thought that you'd have a backup service (that's better than your phone as a hotspot) since your business requires connectivity.

My computer is an huge tower computer, connected via a bridge connection to two CAT6 cables directly to my router. It does have WiF capabilities, but I don’t have the antenna on it, as I use a hard wired connection to the internet to get the max connection speeds for my gigabit connection.
Hopefully soon they will get me back online.

About a year ago all the business in the area had no internet. No credit card processing at gas stations. I had to pay with cash at a local grocery store.

My phone is usually faster than my Infinity wireless at home. Just checked it: 472 Mbps from Verizon.

I'm sure in a few years when we're on 6G, there will be no need for a wired connection.

I've even watched YouTubeTV on my phone service so plenty of speed.

My home Internet is via T-Mobile 5G so yes, cellular Internet is fine for streaming. It's not unusual for us to have 2 different streams going at one time.

For uploading and downloading 15 to 30 gigabyte files, fast wired internet is really the only option. Or company aerial files are often just gigantic.

A good cellular connection could still get that done, it would take a bit longer than via your hard line, but if you've got good connectivity, it may only take 2-3x as long.

We are still an hour out from the proposed end time. I feel sorry for the workers out there working on the repairs we have high humidity and 95 degrees outside. The water rest breaks may be part of the slowdown.

I’ve bounced between AT&T and Verizon for the past several years, but we live in an area of Mount Pleasant that is a cell signal desert. I have one bar and can’t do squat with it. All of my phone calls and interweb surfing is through the house Wi-Fi. When it goes down, I break out a book to read.
