just when I was embracing the ocean, a guy gets punted by a shark.

wow.

I was fishing Russian Gulch State Park. another guy was way south, in Half Moon Bay. he got hit hard and sent airborne, and into the water. apparently, you can scramble back onto an upside down kayak in milliseconds property motivated.

lessons learned was a human on a inverted kayak will push water into the thing rendering it swamped. this person had positive float since he had filled it with pool noodles. I made the mental note to take the time to flip my kayak back over before I slip back on. I think it will be time well spent.

my watch sent out a Facebook note when the hit happened. at my location everyone started talking. I pulled my fish out of the water ASAP, and flipped in onto the deck..I never noticed the water looks kinda black. yeesh. me and Paul fished an hour more and we headed in.

I googled a thing called a Shark Shield, and the company went out of business!!! NO!!!! there was a used one for sale, but the guy that got punted was offered first right of refusal. and he didnt refuse. I think he bought it that night.

sharks. great. I still think it is case of mistaken identity when they hit a kayaker. they never seem to circle back for the second hit.

yesterday? I went bass fishing...in a bass boat.

LOL! That's what makes it exciting though!

I'm sure that as long as you don't go to Half Moon Bay, you'll be fine. That's just where the gangsta sharks chill.

All you have to do is swim & scramble faster than those around you.

You gonna out swim the shark?
NO, I'm gonna out swim you.

I was just reading about the top 10 spots for shark attack attacks.

I think Baz needs to start worrying!

Florida beaches dominated a list of the top 10 U.S. beaches with shark attacks dating back several hundred years, according to a new report.

Weather forecasting company Tideschart looked at data between 1642 through 2024 and looked at which beaches had the most shark attacks, with beaches in Florida compiling 9 out of the 10 slots. New Smyrna Beach, Florida, topped the list with 277 shark attacks since 1642.

1. New Smyrna Beach, Florida: 277 shark attacks

2. Daytona Beach, Florida: 67 shark attacks

3. Cocoa Beach, Florida: 39 shark attacks

4. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina: 36 shark attacks

5. Palm Beach, Florida: 35 shark attacks

6. Indialantic Boardwalk, Florida: 30 shark attacks

7. Fort Pierce Inlet, Florida: 24 shark attacks

8. Jupiter Beach Park, Florida: 23 shark attacks

9. Riviera Beach, Florida: 21 shark attacks

10. Cape Canaveral, Florida: 19 shark attacks

10. Isle of Palms, South Carolina: 19 shark attacks

Not unusual to catch sharks around here but the bigger ones generally are not more than 3 or 4 feet…bonnet heads and lemon sharks mostly.

Here’s what I’d be more nervous about in a kayak…

There is a guy in my neighborhood who catches and tags great whites (while in a boat)…don’t know how to embed from iPad.

Catch a lot of 3-4' bull sharks where I fish on the gulf... and there are plenty of bigger ones. Saw a 6-7' bull take two chomps out of a 35"+ black drum, all that was left was the head, and it was over in seconds.

This past week some guys were scuba diving not far out of Halifax when they had company come and check them out. I don't know if you'd call it a 'great' white shark. They said it was about 10 feet long. There's video on CBC's Nova Scotia web page.

Vash, gotta to see this.

I have been that water many times in my youth. Its our beaches in Socal. No more, I have not been in our water in a long time.

He has lots of videos taking from his drone. Scary thought after seeing them

Steve, I am not sure what's worst, gators or sharks. I think sharks due to their speed. At least, gators or salt water crocks are big and can be spotted easily?
