PPOT Unemployment Rate

Poll will not show user’s vote.

I’ll define unemployed including gig economy work (working ride share).

No option for retired? Is that included in "No"?

gainfully is relative.

honestly, I am kicking ass. my mom was borderline evil during my youth, but she did something to me that lit a fire under my ass - eventually. soul searching, I think I did it to get away from home.
that and the Scare-Straight event of spending a couple of nights in the clink did it.

Employed but underpaid. Underpaid is somewhat offset by good benefits and 3 extra weeks vacation per year when the college closes. Will likely "retire" in 4 years and then go work private sector for a few years

I would have liked to keep working. I had the antiques repair business for 10 year from 70 to 80 but they are so slow that they are living on inventory and not buying unless it's too good to pass up. That's one reason things are so hard to sell.

At 80 no one will even consider even for consulting. I know more about older houses than 10 young so called contractors. I could save my fees just preventing mistakes and have done so many times prior to 2017, my last construction gig.

On my city block about half the residents go to work. A few work at home. To be fair I'd say a 4th are retired. Professionals seem to be doing better as in at least 7 years of education; masters and beyond.

Now I offer light machining, prototyping and light fabrication including welding. Some seem to think old cats can do stuff like that. It's a general myth that I can exploit. Old guys used to repair things but most are throw aways now. So that's all but dead.

The question should be are you gainfully employed and want to be? I know enough people that are slacking and living off others. I know many that are underemployed. They also can fit into the previous category.

So at my age I should be well and truly retired, but I answered no.

My printing business is so slow that it feels like I am unemployed.

I've been unemployed for 20 years! Fine line between being self employed and unemployed.

Sob attorney story incoming...

Self employed criminal defense. The majority of my business is court appointed cases. At least 80% of the cases (40,000 annually) in this county are court appointed, which leaves about 8,000 cases that are hired out. That's not a lot of meat on the bone for the number of attorneys here, so most people take court appointed cases.

The problem? Bexar (that's bear) County, San Antonio, has some of the lowest court appointed fees in the state and country. But hey, the County actually came up with $1 million for indigent representation for illegals in deportation cases. So, county tax payer money for federal proceedings. Sort of wrong but what do I know...

Wait, what?!? I can't imagine you being in or needing scared straight. We need more info on this! Not necessarily personal info although if you are willing to share, that would be interesting too. But info about the experience would be absolutely fascinating!

I have worked exclusivity in photography sine age 14.

We run our aerial photography and mapping company like a lemonade stand. We wait for customers to call us, and we make enough to pay for the airplane, and some for us. I might go a couple of weeks with nothing to do but the bookkeeping, but that always goes on.

Retired for 5 years. I did a few gigs for fun and profit, but these days I just do it for fun.

I'm not employed. I spend every day lazing about. In the evening men offer me free drinks and food, and the Government gives me money and healthcare.

...My God, I'm not just retired. I think I'm a Democrat!

I’m on my iPhone, so I don’t see the poll to answer. But my answer would be employed, for the foreseeable future.

Very employed, thankfully. Remarkably, doing the most challenging, rewarding, and meaningful work of my close to 39 years in defense career.
