Back up the hard drive. Even an external HD you can copy it too or burn a CD/DVD.

So sorry to hear about your mom.

My mom just had her 93rd birthday last Saturday and she told me it will be her last. Some days she can't walk at all, and that really depresses her. I just hate seeing her so unhappy.

Sorry to hear of your mum's passing, Byron.
Was the 2nd anniversary of my mum's passing on Monday. The family was out early in September to place my my parents urns in their final resting place.

It would be interesting to compare notes. My parents were so indifferent to having children that they let someone else name us. My mother never drank or took drugs. She made dinner for us every night, but she had no affection for us. When I was an adult she never visited or called (unless she needed money) even though she lived 3 miles from me. I bought her a car and gave her $$ when she needed it on pretty much the same basis, “You need this, here it is, leave me alone.” When she died, my thoughts were no more than, “OK. She’s dead.”

I'm sorry that you guys had mom's that were less than ideal to put it lightly.
I guess the silver lining is that you both seem to be great guys so you turned out well despite your situation.

I'm having a good but tough visit. Mom was pretty perky the first three days but has stopped eating and is getting weaker and sleeping a lot more. I'm assuming it won't be too long now. I hope my wife is able to chat with her some when she gets here Friday.

Condolences, Byron.

Steve, usually when people stop eating, the end isn't far off. I don't know if enjoy is the right word, but cherish these last few days with her. She'll pass surrounded by family.

Steve - best wishes as you go through this with your mom. I was there when my mom passed 17 years ago. It’s not easy and won’t be for quite some time. I still miss her and regret that she never got to meet her grandkids.

Byron - I’m sorry for your loss.

I shouldn’t have stepped on this thread. Steve and Byron are hurting and dealing with one of the most difficult times in a person’s life. I’m sorry for your situations, guys.

One of the biggest shocks resulting from my parent’s passing was the sudden realization that I had become the family patriarch. Granted, I had been the defacto leader of the family for years, but there is a certain respect given to the elders even in our family. It came as a shock to realize that now I was the elder.

I’m not sure if either of you, Steve or Byron, will find yourselves in that situation, but it’s something to look out for.

Steve, While you're with her, talk to your Mom. Talk about the memories, good and bad and let her know she did her job well . Let her know you understand she has another journey ahead of her.
This is probably going to be harder for you than for her.
Thinking about you a lot.

Praying that your mom has a peaceful passing surrounded by those who love her, and for those who love her that they can find peace in her passing when that day comes.

I edited out "ending" because it's not the end. They're always there with you.
