Just got one yesterday. $30 + $5 tip. This is a cheap place owned by women with strong accents and no ambiance.

Local shop run by a Vietnamese couple, $25 for hair, beard, and eyebrows. Generally at $15 tip so $40 OTD. I go every 8-10 weeks.

I bought a Braun clipper during Covid and use that most of the time since. When I do go to get a cut, it’s usually at Great Clips and about $18+ tip.

I started cutting my own at 19 but it was basically just growing long. Once in awhile I would tame it it. I was cutting my wife's long straight hair of the era too. My hair is natural curly and definitely does not hang well long so I found a happy length that has changed a bit with the times.

I started doing a precision cut cutting both direction to catch any "tags" or unevenness. Looked like Mario Andretti for awhile. The when fades came in I started to cut more on the sides and let the top go a bit longer. I didn't think I could but my hair anymore after my shoulder replacement and for 4 months I let it all hang out, beard, the works. Got too hard to maintain a nice look so I barely get my arms up and around to cut the back while using 2 mirrors.

On thing about all this is that I don't like getting a haircut. I do better at the dentist. So now I've gotten a bit obsessive and do a trim at the ears (and the ear hair) at least once a week. Maybe a quarter inch here and there because your hair grows at different speeds in places and not as fast is others. I find the temples need a bit every week.

Every time I have thought I found a barber or stylist that could really do a great job the first time I wash and comb it I am back at correcting it like @Arizona. And once in awhile I fck up and have to wait for the short spot to grow so I can match it. During COVID I had long hair and it looked like crap.

So I really upped my game and started working at it to get a look that suits an old man. I have a lot of white hair with no balding or thinning at 80. My great grandfather had the killer hair cut in the very early 1900's. The guy was handsome and always dressed to the 9's. I keep a pic of him on hand as inspiration. I don't have the facial features but I got the hair. His daughter, my paternal grandmother, had snow white hair. So that line passed directly to me AND my cousin who has perfectly straight hair. Asian straight. But he's ugly.

I could cut other's hair but I have no interest. One thing I learned is buy good scissors. $300+. You can cut a 1/16th" if you can hold it right.

Zero and no, I'm not bald.

I stopped paying to have my hair cut during Covid. Now it's just clippers. #3 on the sides, #6 on top, angled guards around the ears and a razor to trim the edges on back (with a hand mirror). Done in about 8 minutes.

I bought a Wahl clipper set. My wife is getting quite good, although I don't have as much to work with compared to when we met.

Haven't paid for a hair cut in years. Barber in my strip mall won't take my money. I do print stuff for him for free though.
For you guys that cut your own hair. The best part of a haircut is when they shave the back of your neck and a bit down your back. Can't see you doing this yourselves.
He normally charges $35.00.

I will get one of these when I visit Japan. Fo Sho.

My last haircut took an hour and a half.

I've been boycotting barbers for some time now. Besides their cutting my hair too short most times they never offer a discount for not having to cut any on top.
So much to my wife's chagrin I do it myself. My daughter gave me a hand when she visited a couple weeks ago with her kids but I pretty much do it myself.
I can handle the sides OK, the back is challenging to get right.
Frankly I don't give a ***** what people think of it either. They're usually too busy looking at my mustache to notice my lousy haircut.

And no way am I spending an hour and a half getting a hair cut. I don't have that much time left to waste it on that.

^^^ I'm normally in and out in 15 minutes or less for a haircut.
Some of them use the hot towel at the end....I really like the hot towel. (of course..in MI it feels better!)

$10. Each. A lady comes to our house and trims my wife's and granddaughter's hair and cuts mine. We pay her $40. She hasn't raised her price in decades. It's a social visit too. Through her accounts, we have been witness to her son growing up and becoming a father, her other jobs and her parents' declining health.

I'm in no hurry to get to the finish line. My days of running across the country with my hair on fire are a distant memory.

The salon thing is more about grooming the entire head, not just a quick haircut, for me. Two shampoos, neck and shoulder massage, hot towel on the face, razor shave of the neck and all the rest. Yeah, I can make time for that once a month. It's relaxing and I like to be well groomed.

Likewise, I'll never be too busy to get a massage, especially when I'm on vacation. A have a friend that gets one once a week. I should be so lucky.

Leisurely brunches, lunches and dinners. Yep.

It's a mindset.

I am bald, so I've been shaving my head since my 30s. My son as well. He however learned to cut hair in the army just by doing it for his guys while deployed. He now cuts his families hair, well maybe except for his wife

I had my hair cut here a couple times: https://truefittandhillthailand.com/ourheritage/

I think it was abut $40 many years ago but I'm sure would have been $100 in the US or Europe. The first time was by far the best haircut I've ever had and it was all due to the Lebanese barber. 2nd time was a letdown since, while good, it wasn't the same barber and not over the top good like the 1st one.

Same here. Started cutting my own hair during Covid. Went back to a barber once after covid and it cost me $30 for 10 minutes of sitting in a chair. Went back to doing it myself. I keep my hair pretty short so it’s not hard to take care of.
