During the evening news tonight....I just couldn't help it.
My bathroom is large and this month's 'Car and Driver' helped.

I have an exhaust fan for those occasions.

During a commercial break, especially, during a football game, I can drive across town to the grocery store, buy beer and return home and still not miss a play.

I went to a college game 2 weeks ago, used the restroom, bought popcorn and beer, returned to my seat and the network guy was still on the field. Sad.

I never watch live TV except for the weather, during a thunderstorm to see where the storm is.

We have TiVo system, and I record everything, and watch it on my schedule, and skip the commercials. So to answer the OP, nope, not since before the age of digital TV arrived.

Just pause the show and do what I gotta do these days.

I do remember back when you watched it when it was on or you missed it and then as soon as the commercials started up, you would run to the “can” or move the laundry into the dryer etc., hoping not to miss anything.

And the I phone. During the long commercial breaks at my house, I look to see who’s watching and everyone is on their I phones, nobody watching. Mine goes on the charger after the games.

During the news I use the pause when the commercials are over.
Then I don't miss them ..more interesting than the news.

Instead of using the commercial break..I'm about to find out if one can take up an entire quarter of this stinkin football game. Might be more fun.
