Black Friday?
No for me. I have vowed not to spend a cent tomorrow.
Honestly, I'm sick and tired of our consumer economy. You can't fart without someone trying to monetize it. I'm surprised there aren't ads on toilet paper. Ordering anything on the internet requires you to give the seller an email address, then the seller shows their appreciation by bombarding you with emailed ads. Even if they don't get your address directly from them, if you pay by PayPal, PayPal sells them your email address. Even charities get pushy. First, it's, "Give what you can afford." Then you start getting emails asking you to send more. More than you can afford? Sure, I'll do that. Search engines? Fugettaboutit. I looked up "Rumely model M" on DuckDuckgo and the first five hits were ads. It's comical. eBay and Amazon both claimed to have great deals on a Rumely model M! I have an email address I use only for communicating with retailers to segregate the crap from important emails. That only works partially, because I have a "clean" email address for banks and financial institutions, and they bombard me with ads too. OK, end of rant. |
I need to be in the right frame of mind to go shopping and huge crowds are not my idea of fun.
I will wait to go to any stores until next week if I really need something. |
It's an opportunity to get a bigger discount. I went to the outlet mall one year after midnight and the traffic was backed up a quarter mile on the freeway for the exit. I loaded up and saved some good money, but that was pretty brutal. Now I just go there when I get a 30-40% off advertised price promos and go to the store. No crowds or anything. I usually go to the Ralph Lauren Polo outlet.
Yeah, I click "unsubscribe" pretty often. Big deal. |
Just got this 30 seconds ago. If I stop by the nearby location and buy a $100 gift card, it will be worth $130.

I bought lures for an upcoming fishing trip on Wednesday. Today they have a buy 2 get 1 free sale. DAMMIT

I think I'll make 100% savings by not buying anything.
Umm, maybe pay a bit less for cat and dog food. But NO new TV or anything like that. |
I'm not going. I don't like the crowds, or the traffic, and there's nothing I want.
I'll probably buy Wyatt's gift, a really nice cowboy hat, next week. He's particular about the old filthy one he has, but I'm going to tell him proper cowboy etiquette dictates he has to wear it since I gifted it to him. Being a Colorado cowboy he'll know I'm FOS, but wear it anyway. |
Probably just age, but going through hell to save a few bucks on a TV or vacuum cleaner is no longer a thing. Happy to skip the sale price if I can also skip the madhouse.

I have done some pre black Friday online buys the past few days . I have no desire to be in the sea of humanity , especially when it's mixed with stupidity and no manners . Happy holidays :D

I bought a car with cash but it was on a Friday and it took until mid week to make sure I could write the check for the car. So, to drive it off the lot (and negotiate a better deal since they thought they were financing me at 9%) I had to let them write a loan contract. Just thought I'd explain the loan that wasn't needed but brought tons of unwanted soliciting. Seems like the email stuff went away or to spam. Calls are sporadic. |

You know you can buy online, right? There’s good lawn-care products there, too!

I used Amazon's Black Friday sale to buy an Echo Show 11
About half of their normal price with the Amazon Upgrade Program. Amazing display screen...sharpest I've seen and it's just showing photos that I've taken. |
iMac?
I'm leaning towards the iMac. I already bought a 14" laptop and am getting used to it never having used mac products before with the exception of iPhones for years.
The 24" or bigger screen appeals to me as well. The only thing I don't care for so much about the LT is the pad. I do like a mouse. Touch screen is not something I would use much either. Where I work at an old antique desk, I have to have the tower and printer on the desk, and I use 2 screens, so it's crowded. I don't need 2 screens, they just came along when an office closed and I picked up 3 sets for free. The all-in-one, no tower, type of desk top looks good to me to free up some space. But I don't know Core 8 from an 8 ball, but I do know that one TB SSD is a good target and enough RAM to edit videos if I ever make any more. No graphic art, BTDT and I'd rather have someone else do it now. I do watch a ton of videos and stream more than anything else. It's my TV. If any of you guys have your eye on a good deal that is a genuine "good" deal that is available during the BF hype, let me know. I'm ready, but my budget is probably not ready for Apple store prices getting towards $3-4K. Very simple use here browsing and sending some files including pics now and then. And the TV. I have bought many refurbished units over the years. All good experiences so far. |
Black Friday online or at the store means nothing to me as I never buy anything because of it.
I rarely go to physical stores to buy anything, and when I do, I know exactly what I’m getting. Walk in, pay, walk out. |
I took advantage of a Function First black friday deal to get 10% off a shift-right/short shifter (black) kit and a shift knob. Its a wife-approved birthday present made better because she loves discounts.
I will probably also get a Foxtail coffee gift card where buy one for $25 gets you another one for free. |
This will be fun. The gf and her friend want to go to the outlet tomorrow. I'm driving.
