When I bought my Z06 I drove it back from New Brunswick to Ontario. I was beat and couldn’t find a hotel. I wound up catching a couple of hours sleep at a rest stop on I-90. BTW a Corvette isn’t a comfortable car to sleep in

D.D.T. did a job on me
Now I am a real sickie Guess I'll have to break the news That I got no mind to lose All the girls are in love with me I'm a teenage lobotomy Unrelated to DDT, but related to the thread topic - my wife wants to stop at Wall Drug in South Dakota. The original tourist trap? The thing is, they're 8 1/2 hours from La Crosse, so I either stop short, then go there the second day, or drive there, stay the night, and then explore the next morning. I'd like to get to Mount Rushmore the same day. How long do you need to spend at Mount Rushmore? |

I think I spent about a half hour at Mt Rushmore. Huge carved rock, cool, but how long do you need to stare at it? There is a visitor center as well with displays.
I went many many years ago, right after I dropped a bunch of money on fixing the 911 and thought I better drive it to justify my spend and I also thought Rushmore is something a guy ought to see in his lifetime, so up early and drove all the way there, walked around for a half hour, figured I would get a hotel, but it was only 3 pm, so started driving back and then just decided to drive all the way back home. About a 24 trip!

Yeah, 30 minutes at Mt. Rushmore will do it. 45, tops. Just watch North by Northwest, it's better than the real thing. As for Wall Drug, that could be a pass unless you really like tourist traps. It's just a huge store selling souvenirs in a really small town. The Main Street is pretty cool, I guess, in an old west way with saloons and ice cream parlors, if memory serves. I've been there because I was passing through, not sure if it's worth a stand alone trip but if you combine Deadwood, Rushmore and most importantly, Badlands National Park, it would be.
