Guess which car Wayne bought now?

You might remember some greatest hits like the Adams Probe 16: https://dempseymotorsports.com/m-505-adams-brothers-probe-16/

Or the recent California native Low Rider: https://dempseymotorsports.com/1960-chevy-impala-lowrider/

Or how about the LA fires inspired supercharged fire truck: https://dempseymotorsports.com/1978-chevy-k30-pierce-fire-truck/

I've got a new one. Clues - drove to Reno this weekend with a trailer to get it. One of about 25 ever made. 1970s vintage. Cost around the same as the fire truck and the low riders.

Shall we start the 20 questions? :) :) :)

Well, refresh our memory of what you paid for those two, as we remember the purchases but don't remember the prices paid, if you ever even disclosed that.

My first thought is that you bought a car from the museum in Reno.

Wayne 962 12-14-2025 11:57 PM

Not from the museum in Reno. I was thinking that they might want this one for display, but I didn't tell the head curator there that I was getting this in his neighborhood because it was an off-market (sort of) deal that I had to convince the owner to sell. Didn't want it to be snagged out from under me (it's back home at our warehouse now).

The fire truck and lowrider were "reasonable" - in the current range of 3.2 Carreras, etc. This one too - same range.

Darn! I was hoping for the Centurion. ;)

KFC911 12-15-2025 03:26 AM

I reckon it's not a new mini Cooper if it has tires ....

I'll wait for a pic with him in it tho' :)

You need a new mini Cooper or two btw :D

Thinking classic American Muscle car. Rare early Mustang?

astrochex 12-15-2025 05:32 AM

Domestic or foreign or a mutt?

onewhippedpuppy 12-15-2025 05:45 AM

Wayne buys weird enough stuff that I’m not even going to hazard a guess.

herr_oberst 12-15-2025 05:45 AM

Stutz Bearcat?

javadog 12-15-2025 05:45 AM

OK, my first thoughts didn't pan out, so a question:

Made by a real car manufacturer, a boutique car manufacturer, or a kit/movie/custom car manufacturer?

rwest 12-15-2025 05:54 AM

Location of engine; front, back or mid?

How many cylinders?

LWJ 12-15-2025 06:06 AM

1970 MGC with an auto transmission.

Sort of a unicorn combo of good+bad in automotive design.

Scott Douglas 12-15-2025 06:57 AM

Did you have to rent a trailer or do you have your own?

javadog 12-15-2025 07:03 AM

With the cars in his collection, no doubt he has a trailer, or two..

Scott Douglas 12-15-2025 07:11 AM

Not everyone who collects cars has a trailer. This is California and trailers take up valuable space where a car, or two, could be stored.

True. But given the cars that I know are in his collection, I would be shocked if he doesn't own at least one trailer. Shocked, I tell you!

One doesn't own a fleet of 935/956/962 cars and not have a reliable way to haul them.

I'm afraid I'd have to have a word with Mr. Dempsey if he relies on the good graces of other to transport his priceless acquisitions.

Behold the fleet, he's been a busy boy:

Not for the cost of a 3.2L Carrera. Or if so, then I need to cash in some of my 401k!

Not a Mini Cooper. I don't have an "original" one but I still have the "BMW" one that we did the book on. That actually might end up being moved outside now and placed under a cover to make room for this one.

It's not a muscle car. Although one or two elements on the car look "musclely"

This car purchase 100% fits with this statement.

It's definitely in the #2 category here, but some might claim #3 category too.

Brought my own trailer. Drove to Mammoth Lakes, stayed there overnight, went to Reno Saturday morning, grabbed the car, hit the museum on the way back, and then headed back to Mammoth...

Two - flatbed *and* enclosed. We used the enclosed one this time (gives a clue as to the size).

That would be cool, but no, it's not one of those. This is quite far away from that...

Not an MGC, but your second comment is applicable!

Rear engine. Four cylinders.

That would be nice - I already have that green RSR clone though. This one cost about 2-3% (guessing) of a real RSR...

Yup, good clones are not even that inexpensive any more these days!

Myers Manx dune buggy?

herr_oberst 12-15-2025 09:59 AM

I've narrowed it down to the Renault Dauphine Gordini coupe.

Paul T 12-15-2025 10:03 AM

Mercedes 170H
