Rob Reiner, something's going on at the house.

....that is all.

stevej37 12-14-2025 07:25 PM

Not good for Meathead.

Crowbob 12-14-2025 07:27 PM

IIRC, R. Reiner has a long history of depression.

juanbenae 12-14-2025 07:34 PM

Hope he's not hurting LaVerne

GG Allin 12-14-2025 07:38 PM

TMZ is reporting it is him and his wife and both have knife wounds.

TMZ usually is first and right when it comes to celebrity news. Not sure how they do it.

edgemar 12-14-2025 07:58 PM

Rip

MMiller 12-14-2025 08:22 PM

Tragic... really enjoyed his work over the years.

craigster59 12-14-2025 08:31 PM

They're saying it was his son, who had a history of drug addiction.

Sad, I respected his work as a director. Misery is one of my favorite films.

speeder 12-14-2025 08:34 PM

Sad story. I used to see him with his kids at the Fountain Room once in a while, in the lower level of the BH Hotel. Last time was not that long ago. :(

How does that factor into him being murdered?

At the time, nobody knew...coulda been murder/suicide...or??????

LWJ 12-14-2025 11:04 PM

What a tragedy. Seemed like a fun guy.

Cajundaddy 12-14-2025 11:44 PM

Eesh! Multiple stabbings, Reiner and wife are dead. RIP.

I had mixed feelings about Reiner. I thought he was a brilliant director and he assisted/produced several films penned by a personal friend of mine. This all made possible by being at the epicenter of Hollywood film making. Didn't care for his very public views on politics though. A complex person.

I was never a fan of Reiner but he did make one of my favorite movies.

Mr Reiner thanks for all the laughs . RIP along with your wife . Very sad situation 😢

Baz 12-15-2025 03:17 AM

Just saw this on the news. How sad......

==============

Personal life

Reiner married actress and director Penny Marshall in 1971. He adopted Marshall's daughter, actress Tracy Reiner, from her previous marriage to Michael Henry. Reiner and Marshall divorced in 1981.

While directing When Harry Met Sally, Reiner was introduced to photographer Michele Singer. The meeting not only influenced his decision to change the film's ending, but also led to their marriage in 1989. They had three children: sons Jake and Nick, and daughter Romy.

============

He was one of my fav. directors.....truly talented.......

I didn't know he married PM, or any other stuff... but Meathead was awesome.

Simply tragic ... RIP two both of them.

Nick Reiner’s past struggle with addiction

Nick Reiner has spoken publicly in the past about his history with addiction. In a 2016 interview with People magazine, he described a struggle that began in his teens and eventually led to years of instability and homelessness. He said he entered rehab for the first time at 15, but repeated relapses pulled him further from his family and any sense of routine. Over time, he drifted from state to state, sometimes sleeping on the streets for weeks at a time. “I was homeless in Maine, in New Jersey, and in Texas. I spent nights on the street for weeks,” he said.

Rest peacefully Rob

This is too much... I dont care about the politics of the victims anymore...
When are we going to start warehousing the mentally ill again?

Heard a preliminary report that a family member was in custody.

javadog 12-15-2025 05:50 AM

Son, Nick.

GH85Carrera 12-15-2025 06:18 AM

A tragedy when a child is drawn into drugs, and they chose a life of drugs. It does show the insidiousness of drug addiction, at every financial level is a real issue.

craigster59 12-15-2025 06:19 AM

I worked with him a few times. He was a nice guy but we definitely didn't align politically (but that never entered into our working relationship).

Very talented director, whenever a trailer was advertised as "A Rob Reiner Film" you knew your money would be well spent at the box office.

Just tragic. I've seen some family photos posted and the son in question never seems to be smiling in any of them. Money and fame definitely do not guarantee a happy family life.

in Hollywood? California?

He first entered rehab at age 15. Been in and out his whole life. Been homeless, many times, all over the country. Recently returned home to get his **** together and it looks like he failed, big time.

Truly unimaginable...

You'd think someone as powerful as rob could have had him permanently committed.

It's not easy. We don't have a very good healthcare system when it comes to resources for those afflicted with mental illness and drug problems.

OT+PARF Moderator 2 12-15-2025 06:52 AM

Merged. No need for two.

I'm not sure that you can have someone that's not a dependent (adult child) committed.
Parents would have a hard time doing that.
Was he mentally ill or an addict (seems a fine line, but I think it's valid)?
So which addicts get committed? Presumably, this one hadn't previously committed murder. When do you know that an addict is going to go from "harmless addict" to "violent/murderous addict"?

Cloggie 12-15-2025 07:28 AM

I loved his acting in All in the Family and enjoyed some of his movies.

RIP.

D..

rfuerst911sc 12-15-2025 07:30 AM

If the son did it then he's the real meathead .

javadog 12-15-2025 08:56 AM

The kid has been arrested this morning.

Charged with Murder.

$4M bail.

Their youngest son, I believe?

We agree. It's an incredibly tragic situation for a lot of people who knew them or worked with them, there is not much you can glean from it besides that, IMO. And these types of family situations affect people of all different political POVs...everyone should know that by now. :(

A930Rocket 12-15-2025 11:17 AM

It’s ****ed up when a kid kills his elderly parents.

They probably got him rehab, counseling, supported him financially, until it was not feasible, etc. to no avail.

rip

jyl 12-15-2025 11:22 AM

I accept that the creative, talented people who brought joy to my life will all die as I watch, but I don’t want them to die like this. I’m so sorry, Mr. Reiner.

Cajundaddy 12-15-2025 02:24 PM

The emerging back story is that the parents did everything reasonably possible to help son Nicky out of his addiction and chronic despair but nothing worked. Major effort to reach this kid but never got there.

I am reminded of correspondence between Karl Marx, during his raging addiction period and his father, a well respected attorney in Prussia. At one point his father suggested that Karl was likely possessed by demons. Evil exists and sometimes you cannot fix it.

A tragic story with a violent ending.
