This thread inspired me to go and get a flu shot - I'd heard there's a nastier strain going around this year.

To be honest I don't recall ever having the flu and have only gotten the vaccine maybe three or four times in my life. I have some weird immune system, in the last seven years I think I've only been sick twice and one of those times was COVID. Probably not a bad idea to get the fly shot anyway...

^^^ The flu can be nasty and even deadly.
When I had it in the 90's I had a bad fever along with weakness. It would get better for a couple days, and then it would come back worse again. I think I was off work for almost two weeks.

It's the only time I've had it.

I've heard that this years strain is nasty as well.

I'm pretty sure that I had the flu once somewhere in the 2008-2011 range. I don't know if I've had it any other time. It sucked and was about a week long. I've probably had the flu shot <5 times. I'll probably get the shot this year. I'm sure that as you get older, the flu is less and less fun (or maybe I'm just less and less inclined to be uncomfortable). I suppose it's more dangerous too, but I'm not that old yet.

I got mine a month or two ago. No side effects.

My doc told me not to get the COVID and the flue shot on the same day. He said if you have a negative reaction you can tell which one did it. Well…
This year I was busy, got them both at once, and had a reaction. Boy did I have a reaction. Twelve hours of puking, chills, and diarrhea.
I’m not doing that again.

^^^ When I finished the form on the app today....it came back with a message that I needed the Tetanus shot because it had been 10 years. It said I wouldn't be able to get it today with the flu shot.
I'm not too concerned about that one.

Every morning, on the tv news, they have an article about this seasons flu.
Numbers are growing rapidly and we're barely in January.

Just a reminder.

I have an Dr appointment on the 15th and will likely get the jabs unless she thinks that they didn’t guess right on the strains this year. Last year she told me it wasn’t worth getting.

I was in my 914, top off, on I-35 and a truck slightly ahead in the right lane shed a tire tread. It flew over my head but what felt like inches. I was shaking for a while after that. Now, I never drive next to a truck, except for a brief time to pass.

Mythbusters showed that a tire tread from a semi can decapitate a human.

Boxsters aren't any taller AFAIK. I could not reach a ticket machine at a parking lot w/o unlatching the seat belt and opening the door. Same with my 911's. Now I don't have full use of my left shoulder, so that's the main problem. Boxster gone but the Jag XJ is not any better. When I get flack from a car behind I tend to get a little nasty.

But in reality, 60+% or so of the cars are some kind on SUV or crossover that are much higher. I don't see why they can't reach down a little. Anyway, that's a peeve of mine and I'm not hesitant to get real vocal about the struggle.

I've often wondered about people with limited or no use of their left arm. As a shoulder replacement recipient I have have some experience. I sometimes use the call box to say WTF? Guess what? You sometimes have get out of the car to push the call button. This has happened to me back when toll roads took money at unstaffed booths. I paid fines because of lack of ADA.

It's pretty easy to understand why I have a real sihtty attitude. Especially when this occurs at a medical parking lot. I'd sue but for $3-4?
