She is such a fierce competitor and back in the game after a long rehab from injuries. Still fairly easy on the eyes as well.

Apparently she has been training like crazy and is in amazing shape . Her mental drive has always been strong . I wish her well on whatever path forward she chooses .

I suspect she's at the intersection of crazy and hot, but chapeau. To come back from tearing her knee to shreds in 2013 to race on a total knee replacement in a sport that requires both bravery and leg strength is amazing. That 2013 crash is embedded in my memory.

If I’m honest, I think that she didn’t like being dethroned by Michaela.
When Michaela smashed her WC win record, that’s when she started making noise about a return. I wish her well, DH is crazy. Totally different skillset from SL where Michaela shines.

A driven competitor. I respect the snot out of her for making this comeback and for the amount of effort that she has put into it. Hell, just read that she has packed on 12 lbs of muscle via strength training in preparation for the WC season and Olympics. Her first outings look good witha first and second. A remarkable achievement on a partial knee replacement.
I wish her the best.

My thoughts as well. Mikaela is the greatest ski racer of all time, male or female. In a sport of 10ths and 100ths of a second, she often wins by 1-2 seconds. She's stunning. Not a big Vonn fan but I give her huge props for coming back and getting a win. I did not think she could do it and had her pegged for another major crash/injury.

She won't be able to walk when she hits 50. Seriously, time to take care of yourself and enjoy life.
You all need to check out Sofia Goggia. She finished 2nd or 3rd (not sure, just saw her on podium). She is equal to if not better than Vonn and Schiffrin. She broke her hand last year or prior during a race. Couldn't hold pole for next run so just had it taped to her hand. Lots of heart with that one!

Tuesday slalom race last night in Courchevel. I guess they scheduled it for prime time TV. Anyway, Mikaela decimated the field by a 1.55sec margin. 4 for 4 this season.

I used think how much it would have sucked to be coming up as a WC road sprinter when Cavendish was dominating. I guess Mikaela's competitors at least have GS etc. She is technically so beautiful to watch. Vonn is technically awesome too but it is way more frightening to watch.

Just testing out the embed start at a time feature. But also wanted to reemphasize my liking of Sofia Goggia:

Downhill is just insane. It makes MotoGP look like a walk on the beach.

I skied (not raced!) the Olympic DH 'course' at Snow Basin UT many years ago. Of course, there were no gates but the start house was still there. We just free skied the general route. There was an extremely steep long pitch right out of the start house that the racers tucked and even took a few skating steps. We were making wide turns on it just to keep the speed manageable
. Anyway, the burn in the legs was so severe due to the length of the course, we made 2 stops before the end (and I'm an experienced skier, ex-instructor, and did some racing) Absolutely insane that these racers are straight-lining the entire thing at 60-80MPH ![]()

I’ve ski’d a handful of downhill courses and they are pretty fun. I’ve also entered a couple ‘fun’ slalom races on my powder skis… gates are hard work.
My little girl has her first race of the season this coming weekend at Lake Louise.

I have always been a bit of a daredevil in life and have skied since I was 5 years old. Unfortunately most of that has only been in Michigan where there are not really any long + steep runs to go stupid fast. The fastest I have ever gone on GS skis has likely been at Boyne Mountain in Michigan. There is a run there called Super Bowl which has a very steep upper section. Every time I go there I still make myself skate off the lift then drop in a tuck and go for max speed. About half way down the slope makes a somewhat rapid transition to being less steep. The speed up top does not scare me but when transitioning to the flatter section the g load is is pretty high and it takes some effort to to transition through it.... It feels like you are about to be smashed into the ground at that point of the run. I would not want to fall at that point.
That said.... I am guessing I have not been able to hit even about 55 mph. I cant imagine what 70+ mph feels like on skis. Going there again for two ski trips this winter. At 59.5, I will still do my speed run at Superbowl and will be hitting the big jumps in the terrain park. Not sure when I will lose the nerve but I am guessing that is still some years away. ![]()
