Who has a man cave?
My neighbor has the coolest man cave in his garage. He has a couch, rug and a big ole TV above his workbench. His cave is so well organized and equipped. I am envious. My set up is a mess but I have a goal to go through it and declutter in 2026. Anyone else have a space all your own?

Not anymore...my garage a mess because of a generac install I ordered...so my own damn fault. Workbench and shelving moved, stuff placed willy-nilly, and more. Taking much longer than inspected...depresses the krap out of me to look at. In my new current state as a cripple, it's doubtful I'll ever get it back to normal...(edit) On purpose, no TV in my garage. When I'm out there doing stuff, I want o do stuff, not stare at a tube. So, only a radio...

I have an office/art studio/library/study/laundry room/basement.
This is distinct for man cave, which seems to mean a place where you can drink and watch tv away from the wife.

My garage has heat, AC, a scissor lift, and a bathroom in the garage. Space for three cars to park and open the doors all the way up. The El Camino doors are about 9 feet long, and I can swing them all the way open.
![]() My wife vacuuming the rear floors in her Macan, with doors wide open. Oh, and I have a workbench, and lots of tools and the walls are decorated with my stuff! No couch, no big screen TV, but I do have a fridge filled with good beer. ![]() One of the many poster on the walls.

Yes but... it is a music project studio for woodshedding parts, rehearsing with others, or sometimes recording. It is the place I can go with no distractions and let the music flow for a few hours or a day. Pretty much all dude but no couch, no connected TV. This is the 3rd one I have built and careful attention was paid to dimensions and materials. It is the smallest but sounds the best by far.

In my chambers of creative intention, I live by myself, and I don't drink. There's a garage full of tools and supplies and projects, a shed with all the outdoor tools for communing with nature, an office with space for putting ideas on paper or pixels, and finally I have a couch in my living room that's full of music and books and a TV, close to the refrigerator, to enjoy the fruits of the labors of others.

Hey Rick your music room has a strong 80s EVH vibe, nice!
Mine is 60s-70s with guitars from Leslie West, David Crosby, Steven Stills, Santana/Pete Townsend, Clapton/Gilmour/SRV, Terry Kath. Our influences are easy to spot.

hmmm...well back garage has one bay used as a golf simulator. it's not fancy like some setups but it'll get there eventually. home office has nice home stereo and a tv that help make it a pretty comfy place to get work done but I wouldn't call it a man cave.

Mine is a 24 x 26 two bay with 12 foot ceilings . Minisplit AC/heat and a small flat-screen TV . A 2 post lift and my large rolling tool box . A 16 ' long work bench at the front . Insulated garage doors .
I used galvanized metal for a wainscot effect . Garage is decorated in various US/german/ Porsche flags and automotive signs . License plates from past cars are mounted above the garage doors . Hot Wheels and Matchbox 1/64 cars currently consume one wall above the wainscot . It is so nice to turn on the TV and watch/listen to a race or to stream Pandora . With heat/AC I can work regardless of the weather . It is my sanctuary . Last edited by rfuerst911sc; Yesterday at 01:14 PM.. |

My wife goes in once in a while to get the lawnmower. Otherwise it is all mine. No couch, not that comfortable really. Plenty useful to work on stuff though.

Our home is built into a hillside, the "crawl space" is huge so I've been slow but sure about creating a "caveman shop" over the last couple decades.
All it had was exposed floor joists and a plastic covered dirt floor with drainage already in place when I started. Its taken some excavation to level it in places and a lot of 19" x 19" pavers and wall blocks since it has a couple different levels and lots of pea gravel, sand and crushed gravel. I insulated the 2X6 exposed studs and put in sheet after sheet of plywood for the walls and to strengthen the sub walls in case of a big earthquake. My big brother was an electrician, he helped me run a couple circuits to do lighting and outlets. I installed a 50k BTU natural gas heater for winter months even though being mostly under ground the temps don't go below 50 degrees even in mid winter. It's great in the summer, always nice and cool even when it's 90 outdoors and it's very quiet. It continues to evolve and get finished out. I'm able to use an electric wench to bring motorcycles in and out when needed since it's about 5' down to the main floor from ground level. I've built storage out of cedar fence boards generated from replacing our fences from our rental home as well as this yard. I don't know if I'll ever consider it "finished" until I run out of energy and or ideas for improvement. Some in-process builds from over the years- I finally built a good size work bench that can be moved on it's own wheels pretty recently, it's great to have a spot for power tools, router and what not. My son's 1985 XR350 is down there now, completely rebuilt and waiting for a local shop to finish up a left side case replacement on the motor. These images are of the West half of the "crawl space" -for a little scale reference, that's my 15' Colman canoe and 15' Pygmy Kayak suspended from the ceiling. I've redone my workout area in the East half and still finishing putting in the rest of the flooring consisting of 3/4" plywood supported by concrete blocks to deal with the unevenness due to rocks and concrete footings poured to support the posts that run through the middle forming a load bearing structure. ![]() ![]()
